looks GREAT. I loved the other captain jack. can't wait to see it. anybody know when it aires on bbc3 ?

Yep Torchwood looks pretty cool and I'm really looking forward to it after seeing the trailer. It's certainly going to be a bit more adult than Dr Who with the gory neck biting scene in one of the trailers and the Gwen character kissing another woman.

It was also a surprise to see what looked like a human in a Cyberman suit in one of the shots. This would be a good way to tie the world of Who into Torchwood without a direct crossover, which Davies has said he doesn't intend to happen in the first season. Let the two series exist in the same universe but make each show unique, perhaps a crossover in later seasons, once Torchwood's had the chance to get it's own identity a bit more.

Would love to see the Daleks show up eventually, without the Doctor there to help Captain Jack:D

Dr. Who is pretty adult as it is - what with the implied sexual triangle with the Doctor, Rose and Jack.

I saw the trailer but can't stand the guy in it. He was on 'How to Solve a Problem like Maria' (sorry but I ended up watching it). Can someone explain what torchwood is all about. I have watched the new series of doc who but only odd ones in the older ones.

I heard that they were makin a spinoff with the older assistant and k9.

Many thanks
Colin

They're making another spin off with Sarah Jane Smith who used to be the Doctor's assistant but K9 isn't going to be in it. It's called Sarah Jane Adventues and will be aimed more at children than adult fans of Dr Who, but the creator has said he hopes "all ages" enjoy it.

Torchwood are a covert Government group that deal with both human and alien crimes. Their leader Captain Jack Harkness travelled with the Doctor in the last five episodes of series one of the new series. He is a time agent who has had his memory wiped and doesn't remember the last five years of his past. This idea was introduced in an episode of Who but never expanded so I'm assuming at some point Torchwood will cover this. Captain Jack was left in the far future at the end of series one, so I'm not sure how he got back to present day. Also he wasn't the head of Torchwood when he was in Dr Who, so hopefully the first episode of the series will explain all of this and answer fan's questions.

Hope this helps

Well the Sarah Jane show I WILL NOT be watching. As for Torchwood, I will be watching. I don't know about the whole memory erased part of the plot. I suppose we'll just have to see. I would LOVE some cross-over episodes between TW and Who though. But that wouldn't work 'cause Jack wouldn't know who The Doctor is....well, maybe he'll get his memory back and THEN we'll have some cross-overs.

I've heard that Jack will be in the series 3 finale, so I guess we will see. October 22/23 can't come soon enough.

the episodes are out on newsgroups & should filter through to torrents by tomorrow.....so no spoilers from me......except that it's based post-dr.who

there the odd F-word in it, some blood in the 1st episode & the 2nd episode has sexual content

ACK! Wait killing me! Must.. know!

Ah well. Maybe it will be up by tomorrow around 4 Eastern US so I can start downloading before I leave for class.

Watched both episodes and thoroughly enjoyed them. It was certainly more adult than Dr Who, especially the second episode, with an alien that sought out and possessed a human female so that it could consume men at the point of orgasm.............whooo. :monkey5
(And a security guard "spanking the monkey" (can I say that Dave?) over a CCTV screen as he watched the action!!!!! )
The overall effect was X-Files meets "CSI Cardiff" (the latter an actual quote from the show) with knowing references to Dr Who ("the spaceship over London last Christmas")
It was obviously produced with a huge BBC budget per episode of about £2.50....so 50p more than Dr Who then, but was no less enjoyable for that!

I look forward to watching this regularly!

I just finished the first Ep and am now looking for the second. I love the show. Fantastic. And Jack's little statement about finding "a doctor, the right sort of doctor" just made me really happy. So obviously he knows that the TARDIS will need to be recharged and is smartly waiting where they landed before. If kids had to graduate through Doctor Who-dom I think it would go:

1. Upcomming Sarah Jane show
2. Doctor Who proper
3. Torchwood

I just can't say enough about this show. Except that thanks to it it is now 5 am on the US East coast and I have classes today. Urgh.

I watched it last night and enjoyed both episodes every bit as much as i thought i would.Loved the whole idea, premise and introduction of "Torchwood"from the get-go and John Barrowman could have been born to play the character of Jack Harkness!

I do think the Beeb and Russell T Davis will get a bit of a kicking over it s sexual content though, you just know a lot of kids have been introduced to the concept of Doctor Who now and will follow all these spin-offs,which is exactly what we want. But i would have been very embarrassed to have sat with my parents and watched that back in the day.He should leave the whole gay agenda and sexualisation out of his writings in my opinion...Doctor Who survived 26 years without any of that perfectly well and it is nt needed now.

yep & he's keeping as he thinks the doc will need it back

if UK members have access to bbchd, watch it on that channel as even if you don't have a hdtv, your sky or telewest box will downscale it but they broadcast the audio in 5.1
