There is an EBay seller who had a Hot Toys POTA Gorilla Captain for sale, but he mentioned in his auction that he’s willing to trade the winner of the auction the Gorilla Captain for a Hot Toys Weathered T-600 instead of payment. The figure sold, but he was paid rather than in a trade. I had been watching his auction to gauge the value of what the HT POTA figures were going for, so after the auction ended I mentioned that I had an extra HT WT-600 that I would have traded him, but now the auction was over. He then tells me that he still has a Hot Toys POTA Gorilla Soldier that he would be willing to trade and I said I’d like too, but this is where the problem starts.

Even though the item has not been listed on EBay, he’s wanted me to send first, claiming because on EBay he’s the seller. I explain that this has nothing to do with EBay because we’re trading not buying or selling, but if he wanted to go by EBay I had a higher 100% feedback rating then his 100% feedback rating, also I’ve been a member of EBay more than twice as long as he has. He is not a member of the Freaks boards, but claimed someone on EBay/boards had ripped him off.

Then he starts talking about us putting both items online at the same time (costing us both fees) and then both of us using Buy it Now to buy each other’s figures and then instead of sending Money we send the figures (but still, who is going to send first); I’m pretty sure this is against EBay rules, and if something were to go wrong I wouldn’t have any protection.

The seller claims to live in Spain, the auction for the Gorilla Captain said the item’s location was in La Laguna, Spain, but at one point he tells me,
I'm from the Canary Islands, also known as the Fortunate Islands, specifically on the island Tenerife.
I don’t know where that is, but I’ve never heard anything but bad things about buying, selling or trading from anyone in Spain, and when I mentioned the reverse; me listing my figure with a buy it now and him winning it and sending me the figure as payment and then I would send him the HT WT-600; what was good enough for someone else to have to do (including me) wasn’t good enough for him.

I’d really like to have this guys figure and I know he wants mine (we have exchanged pictures, and both figures have been previously displayed), but I just don’t know what to do; I don’t want to be ripped off again myself.

Any words of advice?

It's just not worth it. There is too much that can go wrong. Put a listing up in the WTT here and see what happens.

Sounds like a scam to me...
Actually, not long ago I remember reading about a scammer from Spain on Ebay... lots of people losing money...

He does have a 100% rating of 231 and has been a member since April 06. I've also got a 100% rating of 708 (it would be more than that if EBay would stop dropping them number off) and been a member since Nov 98 (my math may have been off before, but I have been a member 8 years longer than he has).

Yeh, I did some checking, it's no wonder he didn't get any trade takers, completed listings for the POTA (gorilla Soldier) figures are only around $250 average, the WT-600 is closer to $300 and higher.

I would just list the T-600 on eBay, where either him or someone else buys it, and then put aside the money for an Ape.

Maybe this guy sells his second ape or maybe he doesn't, but eventually someone will sell an ape for a price that the T-600 covers.

I advise to not do it.
I've done international trades (with spain) before but i only trade with peoples from forums i know. This kind of deal have a lot to do with trust.
Forums like SSF create that trust as a community.
This one seem a bit fishy or at least a pain in the ***.
Avoid.

If I post my Hot Toys Weathered T-600 on the trade site do you think it would be a fair trade for a Hot Toys POTA Gorilla Soldier? I've looked both buy/trade/sell over and I didn't see anyone trying to buy/trade/sell either figure.

SO . . .

If you decide ignore those recommending NOT TO DO IT and you end up doing it and the deal goes wrong, etc., are you going to post about it (i.e. fuming, venting, how could this happen, etc.)?

It's kind of like you see the train coming from at least a mile away, but you're still standing right on the tracks thinking it may be OK.

just go for it, and see who will take the trade

Don't think so.

I've already made up my mind that I'm not taking the risk, for me having the higher value figure he was just too insistent that I send first

It's silly how people brandish country names around as if they're all dens of villainy based on hearsay and past experiences :lol USA sellers probably con their fair share :lol

I thought we were done, but he is still trying to get me to list my figure on EBay for this "You buy mine and I'll buy yours, and we'll just trade" scheme, and he's even quoting Asian proverbs to me about trust and stuff.

Since the item was never listed on EBay we moved our conversations to our personal emails. And I have noticed that the names on the emails are not what he said his name is. Pepe Perez was the name the emails were coming in as, but when I would start my letters "Hello Pepe", he eventually said his name was not Pepe, it was Rubén González Cruz.

The reason he says he is so distrustful is because someone from somewhere with the username "golyaev” ripped him off on a custom of a Conan Character (from what I can make out).

I’ve told him again that my wife and you fellows have advised me not to do the trade or the EBay thing and so I’ve decided not to do it. Now I’m just waiting to see if it’s the end of it, or if he’s going to message me again.

This.
Trading should NEVER BE DONE FOR ANY REASON UNLESS ITS A DIRECT IN PERSON SWAP

The whole idea is just absurd and I can't believe people go for it.

Oh no, you have to pay ebay/paypal fees!
Suck it up and pay the fees if the figure is important to you :D

I had done a trade like that in EBAY not that long ago and for it to work out right:both parties have to mark payment received so this way if one flakes out your protected under the EBAY BUYER PROTECTION.Both parties have to ship pakages with a prompt service, insurance and tracking.Also,PICS. of the package with matching track # on box.Of course,it also helps that the person your dealing with you trust or at least has a good EBAY track record. Its obvious that you have some reservations about this so your better off listening to your own instinct and let this one pass.Just so you know my trade went with no problems and EBAY knew nothing.GOOD LUCK!^_^
