Don't have cable, though, so I usually have to rely on internet to see his stuff. Our friend Job usually posts them on his MySpace page.
Here's a good story: A few years back, my friend Chad and I were walking into a bar (Cobetto's) back in Hillsboro, Illinois right when Matt was leaving. Matt and Chad were on the wrestling team together, so, naturally, they started talking trash, which led to an impromptu wrestling match. There was this blindingly fast fury of tangled limbs rolling all over the sidewalk, ending when Chad pinned Matt in less than a minute. He never lets us forget about it.
Monk said:Oh, don't misunderstand me ... Matt's a great guy, and the trash-talking was totally amiable. Chad and Matt genuinely like each other, and are great friends. The wrestling match was just for kicks. It's how smalltown boys have fun.
As for the pompous ass thing, well ... nah. Matt's ****y, certainly (you have to be, to get into UFC), and he's very stoic. But I've never witnessed any behavior from him that would lead me to believe that he's pompous.
He's moved back to Hillsboro (pop. 4,000-ish), and he helps his father take care of the family farm. In addition, he's used a good chunk of his UFC winnings to make improvements to the community there, mostly geared towards the kids (playground equipment, tutoring, athletic program improvements), and he donates quite a bit of his personal time toward the town's young people as well.
So, yeah, I'd call Matt a pretty upright kind of guy.
Yeah he was in some deep ****. Trust me Liddell's hands are like bricks, even though Ortiz was taking most shots on his arms in the flurries at the end of the first and then the final one that got the fight stopped, punches get through and they hurt. Watching it on TV may seem like, "oh he's just blocking them left and right", but when you get hit like that from a heavy handed striker, they ring your bell pretty good still. I watched Liddel train on a few occasions since I used to train at John Lewis's school back home in Hawaii, and Liddell and Lewis are best friends.drbrad1975 said:Thanks for the fight link...great fight...I think it was stopped a bit early as Tito looks like he wasn't in any "real" peril. However, Chuck looked to me to be the better fighter. He was going to win anyway.
Cheers,
Brad
