Just wanted to share with you guys, the Unrated version of Live Free or Die Hard actually delivers what you would expect. It's not beyond R, but it's an R film instead of PG-13 like the theatrical release; good old McClane drops F bombs left and right like usual and everything. I believe these sorts of things are unnecessary in film as a general rule, but since McClane has a pre-established vocabulary and style, this just makes the film all the better to be 100% John McClane. So if you're going to get this film on DVD, and you love this character, get the Unrated version.

Thanks for the heads up. I was just wondering if I should get this. I thought the PG-13 version was great, but it did feel sanitized at times compared to the originals. Off to Best Buy...

I ordered the set of four films on Blu-ray and only the PG-13 cut was available. I would prefer that both versions be available as on the standard DVD, but it won't bother me enough to not own the series--or to get a non-high def version instead just for the edited language.

About frigging time!! "Let the F-bombs soar... like they've never soared before... Let the mighty F-bombs soar..."

Ya, that about sums it up Tom. If you've got specific purchase intents in mind for this film and they won't accommodate the Unrated set, it's no loss really, but if you just planned on picking it up casaully and one of the options with unrated works for you, definitely get that. A lot of times Unrated is kinda tossed around but doesn't carry much weight; I actually expected the only difference to be him say mother****er loud and clear in the end versus the muffled PG-13 version, so it was a nice surprise to see the whole film to be more inline with the series and actually getting substance in the Unrated version. I haven't finished watching but as far as I can tell, there isn't any new scenes yet, just changes to how things are in the existing material.

I'd rather have the 4-disc set on Blu-Ray than the Unrated cut, a few F-Bombs aren't enough to make me buy the standard DVD. It really didn't make it a better movie, probably the only thing I would've wanted was the "Yippy Ki Aye Motherf@#ker" and that's it.

Rather have the Unrated cut and watch the McClane character as he should be than Bluray.

some of the scenes had more blood in it as well. They shot some of the fight scenes twice, one with squibs and one without.

Thanks for sharing that, those details are hard to spot for sure, unless I watch both versions back to back, but considering you never clearly heard **** in the theaters and hear it clear as day many times now, you can tell that.

By no means do I watch the unrated and think wow, that really makes this a better film, all I think now is, ya this feels like a Die Hard film. Sad to say, but John McClane cursing his head off is like Darth Vader's breathing, you take that away, even though it's a small piece of the whole package, it doesn't quite feel the same when it's gone.

I agree with you there Sean, looking forward to seeing it in is UNEDITED glory here this weekend. :rock

It rocks Josh, you'll enjoy. I still feel the same way about this film as the first time I saw it. Ya at times there's some modern day effects, but for the most part, it's just an explosive, classic action film with all the right elements and it's refreshing to see that again, looking forward to Rambo bringing us completely back to 80s action films this January.

F bombs don't don't make a movie better or worse IMO. I wanted it in high def so I went with the Blu Ray set of 4 movies.

I agree Kit,

I received my set last night... nice package...

I'd rather have the pristine picture and awesome sound personally.

I was so busy enjoying the movie, I didn't notice the lack of F, MF'er etc.

I bought the trilogy back when this film hit theaters because the newest set had come out and I'd been wanting the trilogy for awhile, and having a gift card for my birthday sealed the deal so when this came out, I just went for the version that suited me, and since I have nothing HD yet at home, I went for the 2-Disc unrated version. I haven't watched all the extras yet, but the Willis - Kevin Smith interview is nice, Bruce seems like a nice laid back guy and it was nice to get an insight from the man about this movie, and apparently he feels like many of us that 2 and 3 weren't as good as they could have been, so sort of in a Rocky fashion, this movie was about going for at least one more true Die Hard story.
