So, what's the deal with Vinyl toys? I read somewhere that Vinyl was toxic and Vinyl toys could be bad if you came into contact with them. But, Mighty Muggs and a bunch of other toys, incuding lots of Japanese figures, are made of Vinyl. So, what's the verdict?

All vinyl products - and arguably all plastic products - are to some degree toxic depending on the environment in which they are placed and the treatment which they are subjected to. That 'new car' smell is partly the carpets and adhesives used in the manufacture and assembly, but a lot of it is fumes given off by the plastics - and it's toxic.

Plastic is everywhere. There's no point worrying about a few toys when one comes into contact with far worse materials, chemicals and hazards in simple day-to-day urban life. Like Zombie said, just don't cook up your toys and eat them or snort them and you'll be fine.

I'm surprised you asked about vinyl and not PVC. :lol

Typically whenever I get a brand-new Hot Toys figure where the smell really doesn't want to wear off (usually the Aliens, due to the rubber), I let it sit a couple nights in the garage before getting it on the shelf in my room. Not much more anyone can do after that. As long as you don't go any further than taking that initial whiff of figure awesomeness, you should be good.

Dont eat them or use them as sex toys and I think you'll survive.

Former definitely but latter I don't see the problem. At least not with toxicity.

I tried doing the same with my figures, unboxed them and left them in the garage for a while - but then they ended up smelling of weed :(

I wouldn't worry that much, bananas are radioactive, now worry about THAT!. (they are not that dangerous either)...
