It never ceases to amaze me of the stupidity of so many politicians and TV personalities.

We've all seen of heard of these people making comments about how violence and rape and bad behavior are because of video games.

What really amazes me is that when these lot were young it was rock'n'roll music then television responsible for the ills of society.

For our generation it was Rap music and now videogames. So you'd think these people who are allowed to voice their opinions on daytime tv and other mediums would remember how ridiculous they thought people were when their generations Rock 'n' Roll was blamed for everything.

They just cant see the hypocrasy in exchangable blame that changes every few years. Its so damn futile to spend time and energy blaming one thing then the next all the while ignoring the real problem.

Parenting, bullying and other things you cant ban.

If a kid is (not) raised by bad parents they are more likely to turn out bad than those who grew up with suportive parents, not to mention some people can just turn out bad based on bad experiences they've had.

In the UK, if a teen is shot to death by a teenage gang member, they blame Call of Duty and not the means in which that teen aquired a damn gun, (which isnt easy in the UK).

They never managed to ban Rock or Rap music, they couldnt ban TV or the Internet so what makes them continually pursue something which has a bunch of precedents for being un-bannable.

The only response to these idiots is this...

Violence and rape existed before videogames, and rap music and television and rock 'n' roll, because it is simply human nature no matter how distasteful it is, and the only reason people wish to ban these forms of entertainment is that they wish to act but cannot ban bad parenting, bullies or other harmful people.

I personally think if anything games and movies stop people from brreaking the law. They're a stress reliever.
I remember reading something like that there would be 70% more rapes if it wasn't for the porn industry.

I know killing all those civilians in Modern Warfare 2 relieved some of my stress on society.

I know when I play the new Mortal Kombat tomorrow I'll relieve stress by kicking imaginary ass.

I guess i'm against guns, i love guns in movies and games and see the attraction, and would love to go to a shooting range and feel the weight of them, but for sale i dont see the benefits over here.
Pretty much what I expected. You say you don't believe that video games are responsible for people committing violence on each other. That if they are responsible and raised in a good home, then it won't have an affect. In the same breath you're against people owning guns because I'm guessing the violence they can cause if the wrong person gets one. Can't your argument for video games be used for guns also? After all they are an inanimate object that can no more jump up and shoot someone anymore then a video game can make someone psychotic.

Short answer...
One is fantasy, One is reality.

Long answer...
A game or console isnt designed as a weapon with the sole pupose of causing maiming or death, a gun is, its like the saying "guns dont kill people i kill people" while true, guns do make killing much easier.

If guns were legal over here there would be many more gun killings than there are now as guns are very attractive and take the up close horror of murder away, making murder more accessible than an up close and bloody kill.

I love guns and would only have a gun for self-defense because i trust myself, i dont trust everyone else to be as sound-minded. No guns = no gun crime, so no guns for the masses = no mass gun crimes, not NO crimes but no gun crimes, unfortunately there are illegal guns in the UK, but there would be much more gun crimes if guns were legalised and sold.

Unfortunatley in America the only way to cut (not abolish) crime rates is to stop the manufacture and selling of guns, this is imposiible though as you have given the public the right and cannot take that away in reference to the baby/candy argument.

Same thing can be said for knives and axes and legal drugs, they are tools created for a multitude of functions (cutting food, wood, treating illness) so they cannot be illegalised because some people use them for violence, but guns have only TWO functions maim or kill, there are no positive outcomes in the use of a gun.

Anyhoo, its apples and oranges.

These people do not state that a videogames causes violence but influence it.

In contrast a gun doesnt influence violence but actually csuses it with a pull of the trigger.

So the videogame naysayers would state that a violent videogame influences people to violence and a gun is the tool they use to impliment violence, so apples and oranges.

ya, I agree that they are definitely apples and oranges. Gun is a deadly weapon that has a sole purpose for killing and inflicting harm, where as violent games have a sole purpose to entertain. Saying that violent games have a connection with violent crimes is just an opinion and an unproven theory, whereas guns actually firing off in a crime scene and killing victims is a fact that happens daily in America.

Also to add on that note, the only reason why America needs guns is because Americans already have them, if you outlaw it tomorrow the thugs will still have them, so the argument is that you will need them to protect yourself and so guns can't be banned... Unfortunately it's just an on going cycle of mistakes that can never be corrected.

You can take out a thug who does not have a gun without using a gun yourself, but of course it would be easier if you can use a gun to defend yourself. So once the law allows you to own a gun to defend yourself, the thug also gets to arms himself with a gun now... It's all fair game, but the situation only got uglier, and your home didn't become safer, and now there's no way to fix it or take it all back...

and as for the whole video game thing, it's just this huge generation gab where those guys have no clue about the subject matter at all. I would be worried if they are actually making some kind of progress, but usually their action is futile.
