After picking up the Samus figure from BBTS finally, on preorder of course, I decided it would be fun to revisit the old game. I saw somebody at CVI, in line, playing the game on a handheld device, but paid absolutely no attention to what it was. I'm thinking it must have been a Nintendo DS system, either the 2D or the 3D. But to be honest I don't really know anything about this stuff anymore. I sold my last game system years ago on here. It was a PSP that I got solely to play the new Star Wars game on. Now I want to play old school Metroid. It would be favorable to me to play it on the actual TV, but I'm wondering. I stopped into a Gamestop today and asked if they carried used NES, but of course they don't.

My question, in the fun format of a poll, is:

What route should I go to get my old school Metroid fix?

Pick up one of the variety of handheld Nintendo systems currently available and buy the damn game for five bucks. Or find a gently used NES, and the Metroid cartridge, and play on the TV. I'm also wondering about the clarity of the old games on a big 60 inch HD television.

Any input would be appreciated. :D

I actually know a little bit about this as I've been in a retro gaming mood recently, and am about to have my XBox modified to play games.

If you want to play the NES version, you may consider the FC Twin:

Plays NES and SNES games. Less likely to break than an original NES.

Handheld, the Gameboy Advance has it:

And you could play it on either the GBA itself or a DS that has a GBA slot.

Other options are game emulators. I actually can play Metroid and other NES games on my DS using a file downloaded from the internet, using the Acekard 2:

https://www.acekard.com/product.php?type=ak2

You get that, a micro SD card for storage, google how to use it, download the ROMs you need, and there you go. You can also supposedly play some of these emulated games on tablets, IPhones, etc., but I don't know how it is done. Emulated games can be played on the television using a modified XBox, or by hooking your computer up to your TV directly.

I recently just sold my Metroid cartridge on eBay. I was going through some of my old boxes and there were all kinds of old school cartridges for the NES.

Get the OLD SCHOOL NES.
