probably been bought up b4, but i did a search and found nothing, so here goes.

right at the beginning when gandalf, aragorn, gimli, and legolas go to isengard and see pippen and merry...why aren't the hobbits surprised to see gandalf is alive? at that point in the film/story, gandalf's survival was only made apparent to a select few.

did i miss something? can someone clear something up for me?

Yep, Sadly you did miss something...

Spoilers, so highlight to read.
In Two Towers, Merry and Pippin and bought before a White Wizard in Fangorn Forrest...this is, infact, Gandalf.

Which opens up another whole can of worms. If this is the case(which it appears to be) then why did Gandalf not know his own name until it is spoken later when Aragorn,Legolas and Gimli stumble across the White Wizard. Now surely those chatterboxes Merry and Pippen mentioned his name, something i've pondered since first seeing the films.

Like all films there are plenty of others but either way you just gotta love the films.:yess:

Well...I guess when you are ressurrected and come back from the dead you might tend to forget some things...

Hey I bet when you get to be a couple Thousand years old your memory will go a little bit to.

I don't see any disconnect. When Aragorn and company call him Gandalf, which is just one of his many aliases, he does seem a bit surprised but in correcting them I never got the impression that he forgot his name since he says his name is now Gandalf the White. I always took it as he being surprised that they called him Gandalf since he was clearly not the same being. He looked like he had taken a shower and his old robes were being dry cleaned so he borrowed some Saruman's clothes.

That doesn't make sense as why would that be the case since he has just been called Gandalf by Merry and Pip.

Yes all the above are possibilities......yeah right.:nana:

It matter none anyway.:wave
