Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (1:6 Navigation helm question)

Here are some examples of my work my friend https://petespaintworks.blogspot.com

Please PM painting rates. I'm in the U.S. so can use USPS flat rate shipping back and forth I believe. Thanks

He's been printed and now we are just looking at it trying to decide how fancy we want to go with texture and if we we want to try and experiment with another printer.

Since he's kicking off our main Trek line and since he's Kirk, we really want to push the limits farther on him if we can to set a new bar texture wise. It won't be too much longer, because no matter what we have the current print.

I do want to announce I just got the first peek at the Scotty WIP this weekend from Oscar as well, so the crew is really coming together.

I'd rather get it right than fast myself. I've got my fingers crossed you guys will be delivering the quintessential Star Trek 1:6 line-up and I don't doubt there are a lot of obstacles to getting there--from headsculpts, to matching up with TT bodies, to uniforms, to accessories and workstations.

Good news on Scotty. Looking forward to seeing how he comes out.

Thanks gang! Here's the first WIP pics of our Scotty so far by Oscar Sick. As always, hair detail will be done very last.

For people who want a S3 Scotty (or a drunk Scotty-laugh), let me know and we'll start a variation interest list in the first post. :)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

Maybe its just the angle or the shadows, but he looks a bit wider in the jowels than I recall early Scotty looking.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

I'm definitely in the pictured version of Scotty as well as Sulu.
Both painted :D

I dunno, our Mr. Scott is a wee bit wide in the jowls...

I think this is a great WIP! So, serious portraits of Sulu and Scotty, will there be a third character in this wave for a total of 3 new sculpts (wave 1 was 2 Kirks and a Rand)? Perhaps a certain salt-craving alien that was teased at earlier...? :wink1:

Also, looooove the idea of an eventual season 3 Scotty as well, for something new and different - the hair was goofy, but so was season 3 (mostly)!

I sent Oscar revisions saying to look at the jowl. My first impression was that it was too big... until I looked at my ref too to compare (laugh). Then I wasn't so sure!

There will be at least three crew members this wave. No hints just yet on who will be number three, nor how fast I want to turn around and do series three.

Consider the Salt Vampire a "deluxe" figure outside of a normal wave.
I'd say expect him after wave two.

It's great that you have the current print as a "fall-back" plan, so I say take a little extra time and experiment with texture. I think there are two things that really set HT sculpts at such a high standard: highly detailed skin texture and CRAZY good factory paint apps. Of course likeness is crucial; however, lots of talented people (both professionals and customizers) nail likeness in a sculpt but the details look "soft" because the texture isn't there. You have such a brilliant likeness of Kirk there, it would be a total coup to get near the crispness of texture we've seen in the computer model.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

I think the Scotty looks pretty suberb - in checking ref pics, the one caveat I would offer to be careful about not losing age lines. James Doohan was one of the older cast members. I'm glad to see Oscar captures aging around the eyes and on the neck, but I'm wondering if the lines (i.e. crow's feet, nasal-labial folds) should be accentuated just a tiny bit to make sure they aren't softened in the final cast? Also, will there be skin texture added to Sulu and Scott so they are comparable to Kirk? Oscar's sculpts look great and I'm def in for both!

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

Am I the only one that thinks a Chris Pine Kirk would be great to have? I would love to have both Kirks on Display.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

I understand completely. I would love to see characters like Sisko, Worf, Chakotay, Janeway. etc.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

Hey Rick,
How's everything progressing. Has the next crew member(s) been started? Can you give an anticipated time. What about TNG?

Scotty and Sulu are still being worked on by Oscar. As you have seen, they are near done but not at 100% yet. I will probably have Oscar start the third Trek character whenever he finished his current two, which is soon. I am thinking #3 will probably be Uhura.

I will have Chu do McCoy and Spock when we do them. Right now Chu is doing MacCready from THE THING, Castiel from SUPERNATURAL, the
4th Doctor from Doctor Who, and Rick Grimes from Walking Dead.

On the tailoring side, our new seamstress has just finally completed all of her prior commitments and can now devote herself to the WGP projects for Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who.

Other Trek series will happen later in the year (3rd or 4th quarter) and right now I am not really thinking about them as I am realling working on finishing up current series and heads we have going on and working on reducing the turn-around time between the debut of the 3d sculpted heads and getting them in your hands. The process Can be treally fast but right now we are having way too much international exchanges of parts because of where we get the best deals at, and the delay time isn't making me happy when it should opnly take a month.

I have a package with the Rand and Neural Parasite Masters at home I just got from Sean in the UK, cleaned, so now I need to approve them before getting them molded.

I wasn't happy with how the Kirks looked and felt they looked a bit elongated printed, which has never happened before because they always turn out exact, so now we are looking into the printing process, molds, and digital files to try and determine why this happened before printing them a second time for correction and refine the pour detailing, which is just technical stuff, put part of the process.

We are still deciding if we should make the Captains chair because Nanjins will be coming out (at some still unknown mystery date) and we don't want to invest a lot of money into printing and get burned if no one needs to buy ours then.

The Navigation console got some nice interest but still needs more if we were to proceed.

Hope that updates some things for ya, amigo!

-Rick :)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

Thanks Rick. Nice to hear how things are progressing. I'm sure the technical snafus will work out, it's just part of the process. Looking forward to seeing Uhura and how the costumes/uniforms progress. Also I'm of course interested in BSG and MacCready.
Regards

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

I'd absolutely love to have both the Captain's chair and the console. As far as your worries about the chair are concerned, I would not mind having two chairs with two Kirks!

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

found the right thread. Glad to hear Spock will be made. i think a serious spock and eyebrow spock are the ones to make. Shocked Spock wasn't in the 2nd batch instead of scotty. Spock was 2nd in command and needs to be next to kirk. But either way when both of these are out i'm buyin em. Can't wait for a good spock sculpt finally! thanks guys

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (SCOTTY!)

Rick, is there any chance that we might be able to buy painted headsculpts of Kirk and Spock? :monkey3
