What's your price range? As a standard nowadays and if you're considering playing some pc games, I wouldn't do less than 90hz for monitors, with 120hz being the sweet spot for refresh rates. Anything lower just feels sluggish. However, if you're using it solely for console gaming, a good ol' 60hz monitor will do just fine.
IPS screens have fantastic color reproduction and viewing angles, but they are commonly held back by high latency and slow refresh rates. If you're going with IPS, you'll want to look for a monitor with a high refresh rate (120hz). Going this route means you'll pay a hefty premium price, though.That and IPS/120hz/1440p res monitors are hard to come by. Then again, if you're only doing console gaming on this monitor, 1080p will do for next-gen.
My recommendation is that, if you want top of the line, you either hold out for an IPS/120hz/1440p standard in the near future or just don't invest too much in a monitor right now. Certainly don't drop a wallet bomb on a monitor. So really, there are a lot of reasonable choices:
