I picked up True Romance this week at Best Buy since they had the 2 disc Special Edition on sale for 10 bucks. Watching it again for the first time in ages, I realized how damn cool that movie was. It still holds up today. But, it got me thinking about Slater. Late 80's - through the 90's - he was an A list actor. He may not have been getting Tom Hanks money, but he was in everything. When thinking of my childhood/ teen years during that time, my film favorites with him are numerous:

Name of the Rose
Gleaming the Cube
Tucker
Heathers
Young Guns 2
Pump Up The Volume
Robin Hood
Kuffs
Untamed Heart
True Romance
Interview with the Vampire
Broken Arrow
Hard Rain

The list goes on ... But, looking at his current IMDB list, he seems to have been relegated to Straight to Video and Voice Work. Yes, I know he did an Uwe Boll film, but plenty of good actors have survived that. So, what killed his career?

I've actually wondered the same thing, but really it does seem to happen to a lot of late teens to mid 20's actors who star in a lot of films that are popular with younger crowds.

The actor gets older and many people can't accpet them in adult roles. K. Sutherland sure dropped out for a while until 24 ( TV series ) came along. I don't think it speaks to "talent" as much as it's just younger actors not being given the cance to play adult roles when they get older.

I thought Alone in the Dark was his best film to date

ha ha ha:rotfl

Don't forget his in the shadows cameo in Star Trek The undiscovered Country. On board the USS Excelsior, when he wakes up captain Sulu for some report or something like that.

I know....I know....NERD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A homeless guy tried to bite my arm the other day, he looked a lot like......maybe????
it could have been.........

Yeah beating on his girlfriend, resisting arrest and a short spell in jail as well as yelling whilst under the influence of heroin and alcohol "The germans are coming and they will kill us" might have done his chances of furthering his career a little harm.:D

Plus he was beaten up by his wife so any tough guy image he had created would have gone straight out the window after that one.

heathers = :rock :rock
"F' me gently with a chainsaw."

also, loathe to admit this but i even liked him in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

what a shame.
