Man, I am going on 9 months; after losing my job of ten years due to the office closing, I took 3 off and just goofed off.....starting looking more seriously in Jan, but all of Feb super ill with bronchitis, but MAN!

Its dry out there

I've even applied at joints like Taco bell, Del taco, etc, and no one will give me time of day. Gonna have to starting hookin' myself. Got six weeks before the house is gone and my arse will be back with family in Ca.

This has gone beyond 'kinda embarassing' since I am a dude that loves to work and hard.

Longer you go without a job without a good excuse the less likely you'll get hired. Future employers don't want to hear you goofed off for three months...maybe a week, but 3 months? When I interview people a red light goes on if there's more than a 4 week gap without a medical/family issue.

Yeah, I cant help wonder if that's becoming the issue - the gap is killing me though the last ten before that all solid

Of course, I don't tell them I goofed off - at time, figured I 'earned it' but realizing I am a serious *******

I was once unemployed for 14 years. True story.

Ok, not to get too personal, but how did you pay bills, etc?

You don't want to know....you'd poke sharp things into you ears after hearing it. Suffice to say king can no longer rent farm animals in Columbia without a deposit.

I just love the hiring process...

Deal with so many goofballs. People who don't know how to properly fill out applications. I really hate that.

What would look better on a resume:

six month gap unemployed or six month experience has a male hooker? Might need to update.

What gets me, most of the sites/places I apply are all the same:

Create online accnt, post resume, ask same questions - some have you take math type tests or analytical type stuff, and then, NADA

I tell people looking for a job today after not looking for a decade is kinda like someone recently single after years of marriage: you are a fish out of water

I am sure you realized this but you should have started hunting for a new job the day you found out your job was being terminated.

Yup, I sure should have. In retrospect, I am sure it would have made me a much more attractive candidate

Thanks for the posts, everyone. Off to have a margarita before I depress myself tonight! Appreciate the freaks here
