This has probably been asked in almost every section, but I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too lazy to find the thread in the Marvel section, if there is one. Besides, noone likes a necro-poster :D

So, what got you started with collecting, besides comics? Toys, cards, or did you go straight to statues?

My collecting started with comic book cards. Man, I loved those things. Putting them into sleeves, etc. Then, I got into comics. Years and years later, I discovered Sideshow and its been all downhill from there! :lol

'94 Fleer Ultra X-men

I remember sitting in the living room, ripping open packs of these with my dad. That led straight to toybiz X-men stuff... those were some good times :D

Those were it!!!! Those were the kind I collected. (I mean not those exact ones.) Well, Fleer was one of. But remember Marvel Masterpieces with the whole set in the collector's tins? They released them every year I think.

Saw a couple of old gijoe figures at a flea market 10 years ago.

I just dug out mycollection of all of my old cards when I was at my parent's place this weekend. I forgot how many complete sets we put together, and I mean everything. Those ultra X-men cards had special chase sets in wal-mart packs... last time I looked, they were bringing like $50-60 each for the wally world subset cards.

a $15 lotr collectors dvd gift set, turned me onto sideshow collectables.
so $15 dollars turned into many thousands later. (thanks walmart:banghead:banghead)

I found all of my toy biz stuff while I was home, too. I bought everything they came out with, my wall was covered with unopened toys :lol

Started with Mcfarlane action figures. I actually still have all the originals packed away.
Then I saw the Hulk vs Spidey and Wolverine vs Sabertooth. Now I'm a broke addict.

I gotta go find my collection now! I also remember going to Toys R' Us and buying these mini-X-Men "playhouses." I don't know really how to explain them but they were pocket sized boxes (with the cover of a famous X-Men issue on the cover.) When you opened them up, there was 2 mini figures which you could use to "play out" a scene (ie. a situation in the Danger Room.) The whole box opened into its own world, with movable scenery and everything. One box came with Omega Red and Wolverine and another with Magneto and Beast. There were quite a few if I remember right, but this is when I was REALLY young. (So memory may not serve me correctly.) Anybody else recall these? Those were the days!! :angelsmil

Comic books as a kid---GI joe for Christmas was the best --going through Sears ,Wards and JCPenney catalogs----those were the days

I was and still am a big Comic book fan so when I first saw the Bowen Red and Yellow Daredevil statues when they were released in 98...I knew I had to have them. Still collecting Marvel statues 10 yrs later.

I started with Sports Cards, then I went to work for a trading card distributor, we began wholesaling toys, I got addicted to MOC and MISB 80's Joes (which I would accquire traveling around at different shows) unfortunately I do not display them but now that I have my own collectibles company I am in the process of setting up detlofs in my upstairs game room and theatre that will be themed and I have quite a few SSC PF's and Bowen Statues which I will display once I get everything finished...

I've been collecting comics for 24 years. Yeesh.

But the statue bug started with the SS/W LOTR line. Once that line ended, I was compelled to branch out. :lol Compelled, I tell you. Seriously.

i guess the $15 dollar lotr dvd set just rekindled my interest. i was a diehard comic fan, read everyone i could get my hands on in the late 70's early 80's.

I've been collecting comics as far back as I can remember as older cousins often gave me hand me downs from their Marvel and DC collections but other than that these babies back in 1990 got me really collecting:

I remember the sense of pride when I finally completed the whole set.....don't remember what happened to them but when I was nine nothing was better.
