I am just wondering who my fellow AVP, Predator, and Alien collectors are? I am just starting to grow my collection of the Scar and Celtic 14" model kits. I got more 14" model kits on the way through a SS retailer. So, if you collect any of em let me know!

I've started collecting this line. Have all the items on order with Sideshow.
Currently have the Scar, and Celtic predator's that arrived a few days ago.
These items are great quality, and packaged in excellent looking boxes too. If your an Alien/Predator fan these are very worth while indeed.

I'm waiting on a Predator from the first film, mostly b/c I thought AVP was rubbish. The figures are great, don't get me wrong, but it's hard to shell out that kind of money for a film that was so lame.

And if we're talking ALL Alien and Predator stuff (which I doubt we are), I have all the first run Kenner figures (which are cool in their own way), the two Medicom figures, and the 1979 Alien (which any action figure collector worth his salt should own).

I don't think anyone actually liked AvP. But I like the idea of AvP and I loved some of the art direction. I actually loved the original Dark Horse AvP comic and the old Dark Horse Aliens and Predator comics written by that guy who writes for Smallville now. Which is all to say, I collect the Hot Toys AvP with no shame and it holds very little connection for me to the movie.

I agree as well that the AVP film wasn't the greatest. However, the figures are very cool and are indeed a benchmark in my collection. I simpley love the 14" model kits from HT. I am waiting to get some more. :D

I don't collect Hot Toys, but do collect Alien & Predator statues and kits.

I collect a lot of Alien and Predator stuff.
Well, not a lot...
I did get everything McFarlane did, except the 12" figures (only got the original alien) and the AvP Series 2.
I also have the Aoshima figures.
Right now I'm focusing on the HT figures. I already have Hicks, Apone, Scar and Celtic, with Ripley, Hudson, Drake and the alien on pre-order.

I was but unfortunately due to space and financial restrictions, I had to narrow down the collection and unfortunately AvP got the axe.

They had 10+ years to make AVP a great movie, but they screwed it up, even with a great Dark Horse comic to reference. It's a hard sell for me to give money to a franchise (via a toy) that I think missed the mark by a mile.

The art direction was just ok and sub par for a great, sci-fi franchise. But then again, Paul W. S. Anderson doesn't have the vision of Ridley Scott's ball sweat. Castlevania: The Movie?...can't wait for that suckfest.

And I know I'll get flack here for saying this...but they (The Hollywood Brass) did the same thing to SUPERMAN RETURNS. If I wanted to watch a Lifetime movie, put something with Meredith Baxter at the IMAX next time! :monkey4

Mmmm.... Meredith Baxter on the IMAX screen. :monkey5

"I'm not talking about Meredith Baxter-Birney today, no
I'm talking about Meredith Baxter-Birney
That was on Family Ties two years ago...

Tonight is right for love
The rain is fallen and Jay Leno is on
Let's turn down the lights, turn up the volume
And go crazy
I'll touch your body and soul
And change the channels with remote control
'Cause tonight is right for love
With Meredith Baxter-Birney"
:lol

I have problems with the AVP movie, it's a disappointment in my eyes. I bought the Predator figures because they look fantastic so I had to have them. I'll also eventually buy the Alien that's in the next series and Ancient Predator.
The one thing I dislike the most about AVP and it's solely the Director's idea, is setting them on modern day Earth with the whole chariots of the Gods BS back story.
I think if someone with a lot of time and money were to extensively edit the movie so that it's set on another world distant into the future (maybe redo shots of the ship and helicopter as space ships), with the ancient ruins re-dubbed as ancient alien ruins with no human connection, did something about the whole short Alien growth time period, and added more blood, the movie would be much more enjoyable (I can't help thinking about how to improve the movie every time I watch it).
I did read on IMDB that the movie was rushed forward by Fox once it was green lit. Maybe that's why it turned out so poorly.

Here's what IMDB says:
AVP had both the shortest filming & post-production schedules of any "major studio" film in 2004, filming was given 2 1/2 months while post-production was given just 4 months to complete.

How 'bout we just feed the DVD to my pitbull and resculpt his feces? I think that would be a good start!

Yes, the AVP film was a movie that sucked big time. And for such a franchise such as AVP, it was a shame. I can only hope that AVP 2 won't be like the first one. I bought the figures because they were absolutly amazing. They are high quality collectables.

Okay, then. Count you as not a fan.

Moving on...

Thanks for the thoughtful post. It answers a lot of questions hearing that the movie was rushed. The main failings of the film, IMHO, is the story and screenplay -- which is exactly what the Hollywood Machine doesn't do well on a rushed timetable. Set building/dressing? Sure. Lighting? Catering? Sure, sure. Even f/x to a degree. But story structure, dialog? Not so much.

Setting the film modern day is untrue to both Aliens and Predator movies. It's okay to go against genre when done by a visionary who is given the time to develop the story, but it's very difficult to pull off.

The only way I can watch the DVD now is by chapter surfing. A lot of hard work went into the film and it mostly pays off in the creature design and the fight scenes, IMO.

Wait...they're making a AVP 2? God help us.

As far as the Hot Toys figures go, I bought the Hicks, Vasquez, and Celtic Predator so far. I think the Celtic Predator by Hot Toys actually looks slimmer and cooler than the overly bulky roided out Celtic Predator from the movie. However, if they make a Alien from the first or second movie or the Predators from Predator and Predator 2, I will definitely want to buy them. I would also like them to tackle a Predalien if there is one in AVP2 and it actually looks cool. There better be Space Marines in AvP2 as well.

Huge Aliens fan myself. Not so much Predator, but I'll buy it if it looks cool. I love the Sideshow exclusive Predator maquette, waiting on the full size Aliens Warrior bust, love the Hot Toys marines despite the inaccuracies.
