WIP: Maximus, leather armor version

Hey guys,

A friend asked me to (try to) make a set of 1/6 leather armor for a custom Maximus. Seb had made me one some years ago, so I could use his awesome piece of work as a base to start from.

I'm starting this thread to get some feedback from you guys, since this is the first time I'm doing something like this. So any constructive advice is welcome...

Here's the outfit I'm talking about:

I started making a template out of some leather, hoping to get the basic shape right. I kinda went for something like this (very rough sketch), shape-wise:

and came up with this (some straps already attached):

Looks really good so far.

Tabard still needs to be weathered of course, and the golden decorations on the straps need to be added etc...

I tried two more things.

Firstly, the big belt (still a WIP):

Secondly I tried sculpting the arm armor (something that damn Howes never finished) myself, with some help from a friend. It looks okay so far, I guess. Here's a pic:

Threw it quickly on a Perseus body I'm saving for this project, to see how it can look:

That's all I got so far. Like I said, it's still a wip, nowhere near finished. But any advice, tips, comments will be very useful.

What do you think of the general look? Is the shape of the tabard ok? Don't the lower straps of the tabard look too flared (hope I'm saying it correctly)? Does the belt and arm armor look the part etc...

Looks awesome! Is there any chance of buying a copy of the shoulder armour? I too was let down by Howes and I have got Sebs great piece but have never benn able to quite finish it off

Yup, I'm looking into it. Might be able to offer copies.

Wow, thanks guys! If you all like it, it must mean I'm on the right track with the outfit so far. Still got a way to go...

Like I said, if this goes well, I might do a very limited run of these leather armors. Maybe three or five or something, since I'm not used to doing this and I have very little time in the evenings after work. But I'll keep you guys posted an will open a list then.

The shoulder armor will be easier to put for sale, once I can get it cast. Same thing, I'll put up a list then, as soon as I have more info

The boots are just for show now. They're modified Hot Toys Rambo boots. But I'll probably use other boots (if I can find any good ones, that is)
