This is just too wild to not have its own discussion thread:

Re: The NATAL Thread

I just hopes it actually works as good as it looks. It seems unreal. I'm looking forward to it!

Re: The NATAL Thread

Yeah most of us don't have the room to flail around in our living rooms and play these types of games. I want to sit on my ass with a controller to play games. This may be cool at first but I can't see it being something to replace my good ol' controller.

I certainly don't have the room. Plus, you'd have to be in decent shape to keep up with all that full-body motion. Personally, I like having the controller pads.

Re: The NATAL Thread

Facial and voice recognition to convey and recognize emotion could potentially kick ass in a Bethesda game where role playing is such a heavy element.

Re: The NATAL Thread

Clearly this was not made with poor people or fat/out-of-shape folks in mind. :lol

My thoughts exactly.

Yeah I don't want to have to get up and flail around to be able to play a game. That is why my Wii is only used for exclusive Wii games and I do the minimum movement possible when playing. I'm lazy.

I'd say it wasn't made with even hardcore gamers in mind. It's microsoft's attempt to steal a piece of the pie that is the Wii install base.

Re: The NATAL Thread

The video above doesn't even show the impressive part about it. This video here shows where this will shine...

Re: The NATAL Thread

The potential applications for this are amazing. Anyone see the trailer for "Gamer", that kind of interface (obviously not controlling other people but that kind of control) would be amazing for games like Halo or Gears of War, etc. Not to mention to move things around like Minority Report is too wild.

My only fear is that it'll be an elitest thing where it costs more than an actual XBOX 360 and will be subscription based, etc, etc costing a lot more than it'll actually be worth. I'm actually more interested in the "MILO" aspect and whether they'll get scan tech in there and our Avatars will be full A.I. kind of things that can interact....imagine a real life "Second Life" or "SIMs" applications. Microsoft could have a gold mine here....

Re: The NATAL Thread

It sounded much cooler when I was at work. Now that I have seen it. Not so much. Some of the features look cool. But overall I can't see me using it. We will see when it comes out.

Re: The NATAL Thread

As with anything else, it will all come down to the games.

You can write if off as an attempt to steal some of Wii's thunder, but the fact is... if Microsoft can apply this to actual cutting-edge games, then a lot of hardcore gamers will all but ignore the Wii and its family-oriented cartoony restrictions. I know I will.

I really hope other studios decide to take advantage of it. So far it's only been Molyneux who's really played around with this - and he likes to promise everything under the sun - so who knows what his end product will actually be like. The other thing is 3rd party studios shying away from the technology as it can't be implemented across all platforms. Sure, you see the Wii versions, but the added motion control on those have been minimal and overall poorly executed.

My thoughts exactly. I'm all ready to buy a 360 after seeing this. Simply amazing!!! :rock

Re: The NATAL Thread

I doubt it will. The Wii looked a lot better when they showed a similar video when they revealed that. It is a bit less user friendly that those videos show.

Re: The NATAL Thread

I think this looks great! I agree that the racing wheel type configuration won't work for hardcore gamers but there is just so much they can do with this.

Gears of War = using arm motions and literally pointing out where enemies are in real time

Mass Effect/Oblivion = using your face to emote to the point of actually lying to characters to convince them to do things for you. emote wrong and they attack

Racing = waving or giving the bird to passing racers in multiplayer

avatar games = full body mimic to play charades or dance around

boxing/fighting = full body mimic to literally fight opponents in a first person perspective

yoga = Wiifit type yoga teachings that know exactly how well you are doing the moves

lego/jenga = playing an actual game of virtual jenga or building with lego blocks

And that was just a quick list. Imagine the possibilities.
