I have alot of respect for Burton as a filmmaker. No, I am not one of those weird "gothic"/emo people, or whatever the hell you call them, that always shop at HOT TOPIC, are obsessesed with THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and worship the ground he walks on. I just think he is a fine filmmaker. I am a wannabe director myself, and grew up loving classic horror movies just like him, so I think I know where he's coming from. This guy gave the world PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE (a hilarious comedy classic!), BATMAN (a personal all time favorite,) ED WOOD (a classic biopic,) and SLEEPY HOLLOW (one of the only good horror flicks made in the past twenty years.) That's versatility right there.
Sure he would have screwed up SUPERMAN, and POTA wasn't that great, but he has done some classics, and I am forever thankful for him as a director.

Here's to you Mr. Burton. From a casual, and not-completely-bat-**** crazy fan.

I absolutely love Sleepy Hollow! One of my favorite Burton films. And Edward Scissorhands will always be one of my favorite movies of all time.

I am really looking forward to Sweeney Todd this Christmas.

I was a huge Tim Burton fan but I feel like he has slipped after Mars Attacks!. I mean Pee-Wee, Beetlejuice, Batman Returns, Edward ScissorHands, NBC, Sleepy Hollow, and Ed Wood were all great but he has at least to me just lost a step. He either remakes stuff or ends up retreading over his old work. I hope Sweeney Todd is cool but I have no expectations at all anymore for Tim Burton.

I've always been a fan of Burton. The only movie I didn't like by him was POTA. I still don't know what happened with that! :monkey4

Of his more recent movies (there haven't been many), I thought Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were both really good. I actually had low expectations for Charlie, and ended up liking it a lot more than I expected.

Everyone forgets, but he didn't direct Nightmare Before Christmas. I think he's a great visual artist, but frequently character and story suffer at the expense of the visuals.

I'm REALLY looking forward to Sweeney Todd though - my favorite Sondheim and with Johnny Depp - can't go wrong!

WAS a good director. I'm sorry, Big Fish was the last good thing he did. POTA BARF, Charlie Remake BARF, Corpse Bride, I remember seeing it when it was Nightmare Before X-mas, what a cheap re-hash shoved together for goth kids to go to Hot Topic and get all wet over.

I'm a HUGE Burton fan, but I also admit when my hero's fall, and dude's fallen. I think he maybe became aware of his own hype and goth kids at hot topic audience.

EDWARD SCISSORHAND FOR LIFE!!!!!!

One of my favorite director's... Love his quirky style and most of his movies. Tim Burton and Johnny Deep are one of the best duos in movie history imo:rock... Plus, according to his wifey, his autistic (Asperger Syndrom) like myself which is a big confident booster since i'm working on becoming a director/writer.

Took the words right outta my mouth. I think he's had a few directorial gems but I don't think that's where his primary talent lies by any means. I'd like to see him relegate himself to strictly producing and art directing and let better storytellers direct his films. But that's just my opinion (and I'm a huge Burton fan).

He's alright, but severely one-dimensional. I love ED WOOD and BIG FISH but can take or leave most of the rest.

He's made some real clunkers, too.

His BATMAN movies were balls. And POTA nearly casued a second outbreak of the black death.

I love Tim Burton's films (except PotA), Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands all awesome. You don't have to be a specific type of person to enjoy his movies, I am a big time Hip-Hop (or Rap to some of you ) head and I shop at Hot Topic (they have kick *** comic & movie t-shirts) ALL the time and I love those flicks. Burton RULES, even if he is a quirky Mo'fo. :D

I agree 100% on Irish's comment. POTA was just caca.

With all due respect, I PROFOUNDLY disagree. Corpse Bride was, IMO, one of his best films. Just because he revisited the stop motion realm, doesn't make the story a retread in any way. And Charlie was also very well done, and added depth to the story in some areas that was missing from the original.

If you feel that he has "fallen" that is, of course, your choice. But in my view he hasn't lost a step.

Not to nitpick, but Sleepy Hollow came out after Mars Attacks!

I remember watching that crappy game show Hollywood Showdown or something like that and even they didn't know Henry Selick directed NBC. They asked who directed NBC and the "correct" answer was Tim Burton.

Burton should have his DGA card revoked and blacklisted from Hollywood for the abomination of the Apes. He ***** my childhood.

What's wrong with being obsessed with Nightmare Before Christmas? :huh
