I might be biased since I hate rooted hair figures, but I think the sculpted hair is way superior. Saw a lot posts saying that you need to adjust the hair to make the rooted one look good, I still have to see that because all the pics make him look worse than the sculpted.

Anyway, I'm just glad they made both versions.

IMO - as far as I can tell - the sculpted has the right volume, messy layers and so on. I wish I could have afforded both.

I like rooted hair but can see some futzing and OMG trimming may need to be done.:horror

Rooted definitely needs a little trimming of the hair closest to his forehead so it has a slightly shorter length than the rest.

Like the sculpted is basically.

Well dunno about that IMO Asmus' Thorin is fantastic - sculpt, body, weapons, accessories - and lol I can't bang on this enough - all at the original price point. So much so if IA produces him - did I need more of even my favorite Middle Earth character?

I will, of course, and besides looks like IA plans to include the AUJ cloak, but for twice the price (probably) it had better be "better". Real mohair, etc.
For clarity, I wasn't saying that Asmus's Thorin isn't a good figure. I think it's a great figure from the looks, one of their best even. So, just b/c I'm saying that I think the InArt is improvement over the Asmus, how much of an improvement depends on the person. For me, as great as the Asmus figure is, I think InArt's has an added level of realism and better proportions, but it does come at a higher cost as you've mentioned.

Just b/c I say one looks to be better than the other, doesn't equate to me thinking that the Asmus one is trash, though. I know a lot of ppl on here like to bag on Asmus b/c InArt is here to save the day, but I'm not one of them. I think Asmus has done a commendable job over the years especially when they were pretty much the only ones giving us quality LOTR figures for a great price for quite some time. Like most, I just wish their final products matched up closer to the prototypes, particularly the headsculps and paint apps. Regardless of the jokes ppl make now about them, those figures were still an improvement over the original Sideshow figures IMO. Collector's are a fickle bunch though. What was once good yesterday, is now outdated today. Just the nature of the hobby though. When updates happen, everyone will have to decide for themselves if it's worth it to them to keep or sell the old when the new is revealed. I don't have the space for doubles nor desire to keep figures I don't intend to display, so if there's an update, I'm usually more than willing to sell the old to have the newer one on the shelf if I like it enough.

The real shocker will be when JND shows off their $1000 Thorin. Someone must really love that bastard to pay that much for him.

I am consistently surprised by what sells in this hobby. Like, how many Prime 1 statues can a person reasonably collect? Seems like folks would run out of space before they run out of money. I remember seeing one person showing off their statue collection ... which was literally like a museum. They said they were in the import/export business, which I got a kick out of, kinda like the Corleones were in the 'olive oil' business. :p

Realistically, it seems like money is no object to many collectors.

Just got my ready to ship invoice from Pop Collectibles. :panic:

My bank account after just settling my InArt Premium Batman with Kit:

I think one of the "issues" is that the eyelids were made so the eyes are fixed forward and centered, putting the eyeball up will place it under the eyelid making it look like he is stoned.

BUT man.... best figure ever

Wait this figure is actually shipping? Thought it was just a joke when someone said there would be a batch shipping out soon. Pleasantly surprised if so, even if it's a small batch per usual. Thought we wouldn't see any kind of shipment until Sept at the earliest.

Yeah there were a few posts a few days ago on here where people were calling some guy a clown for posting he heard about Aragorn shipping this week. That post was actually referring to a pop collectibles post on Instagram last week that Aragorn was to start shipping this week. Price was $375 +$80 ship.

I got my email this morning

Nice post. Yeah, although the quality from companies seems to be going up (tho I think the original Sideshow pieces were well made for the time, and still have charm) - I'm already at the point where I ratcheted back. Income streams don't necessarily reflect inflation.

For me that'd be a real interesting question, actually. JND is "silicon realism" yes? I'm uneasy, for myself, about maintaining silicon. The other thing, for me, once a statue or fig starts approaching 1,000$ then I hafta start asking myself hard questions, for my situation.:monkey2
