Took some pics and messed around in photoshop for 3PO's first day on the job meeting his boss and coworkers.

Looks totally awesome with those incredible custom figs but for some reason the slightly undersized HT 3PO head seems a bit more noticeable in those pics.

Received 3PO today, sorry for the quick cell phone pics. :chase

I've had the Tama for a number of years so my perspective is colored by that. If the Tama didn't exist I would be thrilled with this rendition of everyone's favorite protocol droid.

The HT figure is outstanding in a number of ways but as noted by others a bit of a miss when it comes to the head sculpt (which of course is a pretty key element to any figure). Seems like a clear improvement over the Sideshow, but I only had that figure very briefly.

Hoping HT revisits the sculpt along with the color in any next rendition. Weathering doesn't bother me too much but would prefer if it was toned down (the weathering spots seem a bit too heavy and too large) and would prefer the goldenrod to be a bit more gold and a bit less bronze overall.

Here's how I would rate the HT and Tama figures in order of importance, more or less.

Head shape/Eyes: Tama, head shape/neck seem more accurate and the eyes have more depth and look far more natural lit up (the HT was blinding when I installed the batteries initially, could barely see the face). Of course the Tama eyes need the blue color to be corrected.

Overall proportions: HT, the body shape, pistons, and feet all seem a bit more natural, in my mind's eye anyhow. Waist is also better as the Tama gets a bit too skinny in the belly section.

Articulation: Tama, has a bit more range, which could also be why the proportions aren't quite as nice.

Hands: Tama wins as the HT has a bit of a gap where they meet the wrist.

Belly wires: Tama (I admittedly like the real wires a bit more, though HT are extremely well done and probably more in scale).

Plan is to display the HT for a bit as my main 3PO and see if it changes my opinion in its favor but I'm thinking I'll keep both. If HT ever releases a Jabba, and I bite, it would be nice to have a dedicated 3PO.

Got my 3PO today.

Weathering is a non issue. Pics here blow it way out of proportion. Barely noticeable under normal display lighting.

Bit disappointed with the head/neck. Way too small/skinny but the hands see huge? Also, overall he comes off more orange than gold.

Oh and what’s the deal with the huge battery hazard warning sticker plastered directly on the nice (now, not so nice) slip cover?? Just don’t include batteries moving forward Hot Toys!

I would give it a 6/10.

The HT figure is growing on me. From across the room the proportions really do look better than the Tama.

I still much prefer the Tama color, but if HT could fix some of the issues everyone has noted already (eyes, hand size, color, thin neck, weathering) the next rendition will be a home run.

My one other complaint is that there are some areas that feel extremely fragile on this HT. Tama has been a tank basically all these years but on the HT those little pistons or whatever at the base of the neck seem like they could break just looking at them; sounds like a collector has already broken those or the spike at the top of the head.

Can someone remind me what the non-refundable deposit was on the BBTS version of this guy? Was thinking of cancelling, but might keep if it was a huge loss. Can't remember for the life of me

Edit: nevermind, cancelled anyway. Think I'll wait for anh or empire version if they ever decide to do one

I was able to get a waitlist conversion! I'm starting to wonder if Hot Toys keeps doing weathering on these chrome figurers because of the amount of paint defects. I know there was weathering on the ROTJ 3PO and I love the weathering, but I can't help but think it's heavier like on Mando to help hide the inevitable defects... Anyways Looks fantastic!

Someone should take some fingernail polish remover and try to remove a small test area of dots.
These high res photos really blow the speckled pattern way out of proportion. Maybe it's my aging eyes but at a normal viewing distance of a couple feet I cant see the dots at all. I was really worried when I order him as I thought the weathering was god awful but once I got him its a non issue. I wouldn't risk ruining the finish attempting this personally.

After having this for a while I'm not too keen on the way Hot Toys did the lights for the eyes. Hope they revisit that on a future release, as from different angles you see there's just one light source that hits the eyes unevenly from different angles.

I've tried acetone (nail polish remover) but it has no effect. The weathering is actually sealed under a clear topcoat, so there's nothing that can get at it without damaging the finish.

The bottom piece of one of my pistons separated (weak glue I guess), something to watch out for.

Same here but it was my fault. I was removing one of the hands and had too much pressure on the piston. Not a huge deal, I might be able to fix it with some crazy glue.
