Their catwoman was so much better than the proto that I wouldn't worry. The pfeiffer likeness and paint are amazing.

What I would be worried about is the cape - it's just pleather isn't it?

Edit: didnt read the post above saying it is pleather lol. How likely is it that this cape will degrade? Are all pleather make the same?
I asked P1 what material the cape on the 1/3 1989 Batman statue is made of, and they said it's fabric, not leather, imitation leather, or pleather.:)

Did they specifically say 'not leather, imitation leather or pleather' or just 'it's fabric' because 'fabric' is a very vague term that covers a lot of materials...like pleather.

P1's exact words were= ''The cape of the 1/3 1989 Batman statue is made of fabric. It is not leather, imitation leather, or pleather''.:)

FYI it’s up on sideshow. I’m tempted for the 2 pack but it’s pricey.

Is 89 Keaton your favorite Batman?

If he is, you should seriously consider. The statute does feel overpriced though and there’s always the looming threat of JND releasing their Keaton duo statue.

I held off initially hoping JND would announce their own Batman 89 - the Prime 1 and JNDs statues don’t pair well together because the bases are not uniform- Prime 1 is taller and more “busy.”

Darn, I just put down a PO deposit direct at Prime 1 last week before this popped up on Sideshow - probably will get nailed with a huge customs tax and overseas shipping fee. Then again, it might end being a wash because Sideshow shipping is not cheap either and CA sales tax is near 10%.

I have seen some early P1 Arkham Knight Batman capes starting to flake.
Were those statues in humid environments?

I live in a moderate climate where humidity is not a concern. Luckily no pleather flaking issues so far but feel that it is inevitable that all things will eventually deteriorate.

I bought the Batman 89 SSC PF statue about 10 years ago - the cape seems to be holding up well and I think that was pleather.

Not sure, I don't even remember where I saw them now.

Like most things, along with climate and general care for your collectibles, there are different grades of pleather as well. I've never had sideshow pleather stuff flake on me, especially older stuff, yet I've had a decent handful of HT and other companies stuff flake.

Also, I believe how much the statue or figure is handled plays a factor - posing and stress on the material, not using gloves, etc.

I have a couple old Bluetooth over the ear (“can”) wireless headphones made of pleather - they eventually start flaking, probably due to the oils from our skin transferring to the material.

Can I ask who gave you that answer, was it a CS rep, someone working on the actual statue, etc.? Because it comes across like a customer service/social media rep who just looked at the promo photos on the website and saw all the ones that say “Fabric Cape” without realizing that, for example, a pleather cape would also be advertised as “fabric” since the alternative for statues is “sculpted.” Do you know what I mean? It certainly looks like some type of leather or pleather, and since they aren’t advertising it as “real leather” then…well there you go.

I PO’d my first two P1 statues a couple weeks ago, the Endoskeleton and BD T-800. The real push over the edge was the confirmation that all versions of the T-800 would be real leather. I just have so many questions about the cape on this Batman, just the anxiety I would have in the back of my head about the cape *possibly* deteriorating at some point in the future would kinda ruin the experience of owning such a large pricey piece. If one of my $200-300 HT figures starts flaking then it’s like, whatever, I can buy some replacement boots or something, but a $1600+ statue…

It was the Prime 1 Customer Support Team that answered my question about the cape for the 1/3 1989 Batman statue. :)

Got it, thanks. I’m still very suspicious that it most likely is a pleather cape. My experience is that customer service reps for most of these collectible companies usually don’t know much more about upcoming products than what is advertised, and I think the most likely scenario is they looked at the product description/photos that say “fabric cape” and just answered with that info. I doubt they actually talked to anyone higher up who would know for sure. I’m going to ask in the P1 Collectors FB group and see if anyone has any other info.

I was thinking the same thing, reps for most companies are clueless.

ES for the Ultimate Version has been increased to 300, and the ES for the Regular Version has been increased to 400, due to high demand......:)

You would think the ES would be higher for such an iconic Batman.

The high price probably scared most collectors away.

Somebody over at statue forum posted a video that Blitzway posted on youtube, about how to arrange the cape on the 1/3 1989 Batman. From the front, the likeness looks off, but the close up from the side looks good, so hopefully it's just the lighting in the video that makes the likeness from the front look off..........:pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray:
