Fortunately HT have not made any figures that I'm interested in for years, so my bank balance has been able to build up a bit. Now they hit me with this T2 triple whammy!

The InArt Nazgûl is the first time in a long time I'm really hesitating getting a figure that I really want because of the price, so I definitely can identify with the overall sentiment here.

Having said that, I'm definitely not priced out of the hobby. In fact, I have more figures on pre-order now than ever in my 18 years of 1:6 collecting.
But the thing is, that number is 6. I think the reason I can't identify with most of you is that my collecting approach has always been what some of you describe now as "winding down".

I started 1:6 when I was fresh out of high school starting college (18 years ago), so I couldn't afford more than 1 figure per year, which I had to save up for. After college, once I got a full-time job working I had more disposable income, but I liked to travel. Then my (now) wife and I started saving up to buy a house. Then we had a daughter and had to start paying daycare.
So while my income and disposable income grew over the years, I always tried to restrain myself from buying more than 2-3 figures per year, focusing only on my absolute favorite ones.

Now I'm at a point where I feel I can buy some more figures without having to make concessions in other parts of my life. So while the prices keep increasing, the difference is not that large when you only buy a handful per year.

And regarding value for money, I do still feel it's there. The figures now are light-years ahead of what they were 15 years ago. Even 10 year old figures are mostly outdated IMO, and I hardly have any left in my collection. Then again, I've always been an extreme quality over quantity kind of guy.

Yup, I still really enjoy the art which makes it difficult to completely move on, but I’m starting to be more content being an onlooker than a consumer the more and more I think about it, at least when it comes to 1/6 scale. I’d rather just buy less but spend a little more on the more important characters
That's something that has sustained me a lot over the years. :lol Compared to the amount of figures I buy, the time I spent reading about this hobby and looking at pictures is waaaay out of proportion.

The majority of what I’m waiting on isn’t to be released until the back half of next year.
My moducase shipment is set for next month delivery so admittedly, it will be quite bare for some time.

Like @agonistes86 , I’ve been in the hobby and or have known about it for awhile
and also have been very selective on what I’ve purchased and kept through those years.
The first couple, I didn’t buy any but viewed new releases anyways, eventually in 2017 began collecting TDK and custom work.

Ultimately,
I suppose my goal is 15-20 figures at their max potential followed by 3 1:6 vehicles and an armory tucked away neatly in a Moducase display, only taking up a single wall. With my only real future purchases either being unique one off characters or updates on what I already own or plan to.

I don’t want this hobby to engulf my life,
I like to comfortably sit and view releases from the outside, the comfort of my phone or computer, with no intention of ever purchasing them.

It’s very hard for me to look at a release and say it’s worth bringing into my everyday life.
Only the ones I really want to view, with no visual interest lost do I need. You really have to ask yourself, how often do I want to view that in person.

what are some of the 1/12 lines people collect? interested in moving over to that if i can find a decent thor

I have hundreds of figures ranging from Hasbro Titan Hero "shampoo bottle" figures all the way up to HT Samurai Predator and Kotobukiya Yoshimitsu.

I kinda hoard as I don't like to part with old or outdated figures but may have to eventually just for the sake of space. I also have many tubs full of parts and bodies that I will likely never actually use so may end up moving those on but the core collection stays, no plans to ever part with it. My collection (when including non 1:6 such as 3.75 inch Star Wars figures) stretches back to my early childhood all the way to now. My 1:6 collection started not very long after meeting my now wife so I feel a sort of emotional attachment to them. They sort of symbolise the growth of the relationship.

Do I have an endgame in sight for the collection? Not really, I hope to eventually somehow move to a bigger better home where I will have space to keep expanding the collection to the point it is basically a museum. When I die? I will leave that up to my wife and child to decide but I would hope most of it either gets passed down to my kid or gets donated to a toy/collectible museum so those who can't afford to collect can enjoy them.

He won't want them...

There's really no such thing.
I literally went to a toy museum before soooooo there is, just not many haha.
(Edit: there is also a miniature model museum thing not far from where I live, they don't have much 1:6 but have the space to include them so two places I have been could be possible)

My kid loves toys now, maybe later he won't care, either way, it will be up to him and my mrs to decide.

When we all die over the next 20-40 years there will be truck-loads of these toys scattered across the globe, with widows wondering WTF to do with it all. Most all of it will be trash. Even kids at the hospitals will be like "please, no more Jokers, I have like 20"...
Then everyone stick me in your will! I will take care of all that trash for your widows.....

I should have said, how many Jokers could you build with the parts/clothing you have...?
Oh I don’t count loose clothing, extra accessories or figures that are disassembled as figures I own. Displayed and complete as in a (figure from head to toe form I mean) they all get upgrades throughout the years.

Goal is figures and vehicles together to cap out at 20. Don’t want more than 20 collectibles displayed at once, single wall.

A room dressed head to toe in these things isn’t for me, no matter how much I like any film or character.

@Wor-Gar I'm thinking much farther ahead. Imagine aliens visiting Earth and discovering someone's 1/6 dolly collection long after humanity has wiped itself out of existence. That collection might end up in an interstellar museum somewhere.

That was the original ending to Spielberg's A.I.

It would be sad if ancient aliens return and believe this century's 'god' was Ledger Joker. So many customs heads they're going to think that half the globe looked like Ledger.

"Why was the trash can so filled today?" "Dad left me his old toys. I remember him saying they were worth something at some point. I've got no room for them. NFT's only."

Imagine something so silly becoming the only thing that we're remembered for as a species. Can't say we don't deserve it.
