I had the same experience with the Matrix sequels, it kind of soured me for a time with the franchise in the early 2000s.
But I loved the original, watched it 5 times in the theater during the 20th Anniversary back when I still had AMC A-List.
I don’t revere Joker on that level but now that I’m older, my expectations are set much lower when watching sequels and reboots of beloved movies.

Haven’t seen the sequel yet but was hoping for a Lady Gaga Harley figure.
Probably would have bought, regardless of whether I liked the movie or not.

Second movie was so bad it basically ruined first one for me. Cancelled HT PO and not even sad about InArt overpriced set anymore. What a hot mess

I will keep my preorder for sure. A bad sequel doesn't change that the first one was really good(at least to me) and I want that character in my shelve. If that's the case I will not have many figures, most of the lines with multiple movies have very bad ones, for example just pick any disney franchise lol
At least I'm able to separate movies and characters and appreciate the version from the best of all.

I am sorry for you people. Most franchises were spoiled from SW to LOTR or the Terminator. If you like a movie - enjoy it. Stop making canons.
It goes especially with collecting, as some figures are amazing though the source is not so good, and vice versa.
Enjoy, and remember that most of you will buy overpriced figures when all your online emotions are gone.
Sometimes even one scene is worthy of materializing in a figure form. But each of us decides what to stare at, and what experience to remind ourselves of with our collection.
It goes especially with collecting, as some figures are amazing though the source is not so good, and vice versa.
Enjoy, and remember that most of you will buy overpriced figures when all your online emotions are gone.

I agree mostly on this but whereas this is a direct continuation sequel released within a few years from the same director, with the same principal character, I find it very hard to separate from its predecessor as opposed to, as you say, SW for example (either PT or ST), which I can absolutely separate and remove from my head and therefore happily collect ‘untarnished’ OT figures if I want.
Why do people make up these arbitrary rules?

It’s my OCD and anxiety. I don’t choose to.
Plus, a lot of us weren’t born when the originals of some of these films came out, therefore bad sequels already began to exist by the time we ran across the IP.
Though regardless of when you see it,
you know when you’ve seen an undeniably good or bad film, whether you like what you saw, is a different thing. People shouldn’t have to be told anything after T2 is garbage.
TDKR doesn’t taint TDK because it’s a completely different film, different villain, therefore incomparable to its predecessor. Had Nolan recasted The Joker for Rises, we’d have a different conversation.
It intercepts Nolan’s chance at a perfect trilogy, but no one looks at TDK any differently.
Phoenix Joker wasn’t legendary enough to endure this, he was Joker for thirty minutes tops between two films then went back to being Arthur for the remainder we saw him.
They already made him too weak the first time around that I didn’t like, so the second film absolutely ruined this version of the character.

But he would be the closest thing to traditional Joker we've ever had (since Dafoe never got his chance)

Agreed, i don't understand that logic at all. The first film works as a single story and was originally intended to be one film. A bad sequel doesn't change that imo, but to each their own i guess.
