As a big Addams Family fan, I think the show is alright. The girl that plays Wednesday is pretty good. ...

I remember seeing a short series on YouTube with the character. It was unlicensed apparently, so some of the comments said the people who made it and the actress couldn't make any more of them. They were pretty good. I'm guessing they will eventually be pulled for copyright at some point. But I am curious if the appeal of those videos created the groundswell for this series.

Honestly I think they should have just casted the actress from the YouTube series.

Isabela Merced, remember her from Transformers Last Knight and Dora crapfest…well…

She has grown up and is even hotter than this Wednesday chick!

Yeah this is her now! :thud:

I LOVED the show- Wednesday was cast just right! I always thought Jenna Ortega was a child star but I guess she grew up. I actually thought Zeta Jones/Morticia was great too- yes not a lot of chemistry with Luiz Guzman ... but her look and attitude was pretty good. I mean, Anjelica Huston was just SO GOOD it's hard for anyone to take her pace (for me) as Morticia.

I like that Christina Ricci had a character on the show I mean, the character itself was STUPID, and her lines not fantastic either... but she did what she could and I think acted very well given her limitations. I thought Gwendoline Christie was great- I love how she towers over everyone - even though I think they played it up a bit.

The premise/story line was very "Monster High" and could have been really REALLY stupid, but I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the show was. I can't wait until Season 2 (they were so obviously setting up for another)

I hope some company whips out an action figure or high end fashion doll at some point-

With the money they have... I was hoping they'd invest in better earphones. Those are crap! :lol

Just finished this last night. It was pretty fun and I thought she was cast perfectly too. There is actually some character development there so I would like to see a season 2 just to see where they bring these characters.

Would love to see more of her family too. I'm not sure I am a fan of this Gomez but Morticia was great. Bit shocked to see that's how Catherine Zeta looks like now though....

Aside from Ortega as Wednesday, I think this show has the worst Addams family cast since the straight to video Addams family film with Tim Curry.

Catherine Zeta looks bland. Her performance is ok. I like Guzman's look as Gomez, but I find his performance uninspired and dull. Gomez is a scene stealer, and Guzman is just there in the background like ugly wallpaper.

Boring I think not sir! You didn’t like the edge of your seat mystery that could be seen a mile away.

Seriously why did they make that monster thing look exactly like the person everyone would suspect.

Still enjoyed it tho

Couldn't even make it through the first episode. The chick playing Wednesday is ok but everything else is bland as bland can be.

The majority of people here at SSF are not the target demographic.

So current "modern" young adult stuff like books and TV are generally built around the lead female protagonist to take both a masculine and feminine role at the same time.

When Suzanne Collins wrote The Hunger Games, she aimed it at tween girls, and there was a clear role reversal. Katniss was built upon standard male lead archetypes. Peeta was written in the vein of a feminine archetype. Gale was effectively a larger scale background character, because his character construction doesn't mesh well with Katniss. Interesting character dynamics come from having complementary roles, not outright competitive ones.

Imagine if Peeta oscillated from being the human punching bag/victim/nice guy trope into a more hard edged aggro type character? Then it kept happening back and forth? It doesn't really work to balance off of Katniss. This is why Glee kept ramping up it's narrative failure, season after season. Ryan Murphy started with a satire, where he works well, then tried to push/pull into his own bully pulpit, then attempt to retreat back to satire because the audience doesn't like to be lectured at over and over.

Collin understood that her characters couldn't keep jumping back and forth across simple archetypes. It's too complicated to do that and tell an effective story.

You can't construct Wednesday to be the perpetual aggressor and then dip your toes into some narrative dovetail where magically she appears to have no agency just because it's expedient to drive the plot forward. The writers have to pick a side.

What you'll notice in current TV and films is that character growth no longer comes from learning from one's mistakes, they derive from some kind of malicious deception. Your "hero" can only be a hero if they are a victim first. It's basically an impossible task to hold to that and construct real progression with actual character development.

I remember the hunger games. Got into it when I was young I look back now and I think those movies were trash

The first 1/6 character from the series (and also 1/1 by the looks of it!)

This series blew up so fast. I never thought Wednesday of all characters would be so popular with the kids today but I guess I see why. She comes off as a “I don’t care about anything” type girl who is always popular

I'm surprised no one cashed in with a figure yet lol, but that Thing figure makes me think a third party is getting one ready.

I'm surprised with today's short attention span that shows last very long. I don't really do a lot of streaming, but I have a lot of crap on DVR (don't even know if that's a thing anymore). Stuff has been sitting there for months. When I finally have time to watch, half of the time I don't know what's going on.
You also have shows with kids in it. Two years makes a big difference.
