I watched the first two episodes and it was fun. I enjoyed all the ester eggs and the nostalgia brought me back to being a kid again. :D :rock
Yeah, I loved the American Graffiti Easter egg for George Lucas (The bully whom KB and Fern were going to race is Bonjj Phalfa. Definitely a callback to Bob Falfa, Harrison Ford's character in AG.).

I agree that it's been fun. And save for maybe Wim's dad no characters have been annoying yet.

Did anyone else have flashback's to the last Star Trek movie (the one with Idris Elba) when the pirates boarded the ship at the beginning of Episode 1? The way they speared the hull to breach it was similar to how his swarm ships did so when they boarded the Enterprise. Regardless, I thought it was a cool sequence, same with how they took out the ship's cannons.

The show is definitely better and less cringey than I was expecting from the trailers, and I'm liking the mystery surrounding their planet.

But ultimately the show still comes off a little too "Disney kid's movie" for my taste and I only have so much patience these days for following a bunch of bratty, bickering kids on a crazy adventure.

Plus it feels like the show is maybe straining a little TOO hard to be another Goonies, without it ever feeling half as natural as that story did.

Love The Goonies. Never understood the hate it got. It’s just an immensely fun kids adventure flick. I’m 53 btw lol.
I was a huge fan of the Goonies as a kid in the 80s like everyone else... but I have to admit it's the one 80s movie I just can't seem to get into anymore when I watch it today. Probably because I find the kids all supremely annoying now. Lol

The theme music is still absolutely kickass though.

Only got through half of episode 1 before falling asleep. Not due to content, I am just working long hours.

It got me interested, the kid actors are decent, which makes all the difference. TPM would have been much better with a slightly older and better child actor.

We shall see where it leads, as I was totally uninterested in a kid centric Star Wars series.

I loved The Goonies as a kid. Can't stand it now on account of the constant screaming. They're standing two feet away from each other, no need for that kind of volume.
Holy old man syndrome. Does it upset you when they walk across the grass too?

Kids usually talk at that volume to each other.

Wow. Reading this thread You gotta be like 45 plus to hate the goonies.

That movie is so 80s and brings me back to how I use to go on little adventures as a kid.
I mean yes if you watched it for the first time at 25 and up you’d hate it
I was never a fan in the 80’s. I appreciate it slightly more now but still never think about watching it unless it happens to be playing in the background.

I actually like this show. It's fun.

The usual outrage machine will no doubt be incensed because in this episode we see that the little Lobot girl has two moms.

Doesn't bother me. You'd be surprised how many videos I've enjoyed that feature Asian lesbians.

It's all very predictable and paint-by-numbers, but it's good. The new character in this episode is an owl/cat creature that's very reminiscent of Aughra from Dark Crystal.

Member-berries in this episodes include a direct homage to Lobot, cause the girl is apparently the same kind of cyborg. Memba Lobot? I memba!!

I don't know why this show works for me but Obi wan and Ahsoka and Acolyte were so dreadful. Whatever. It's fun.

I think because those other shows forgot to be fun. The goal of this show seems to have been to make it a fun adventure, and it’s been doing just that. Plenty of mystery to keep you engaged, enjoyable characters, and decent writing. I was really impressed that not all of the kids are immediately trusting of Jude Law. I feel on another show, they’d trust him blindly and then be surprised he wasn’t who he said he was. Glad they didn’t drag that out.

It’s kind of a shame they sat on this for a year when they could be well into development of a second season already instead of waiting to see if the fans hate this one too.

Kids are gonna be too old for a second season.

I've been wondering how they do the elephant kid. Does the real kid run around with dots painted on his face and they CGI the elephant head on him? Surely there's no practical rubber mask. That would be illegal to make a kid wear it all day. I think there really is a kid on set though, he's not just doing the voice.

Supposedly they have an idea for a second season already and it would incorporate a time jump of a few years, presumably because the kids will be noticeably older.

There are times. Neel seems to have a real mask head and other times CGI. It might be like Grogu where they use a mix so that when they do use CGI it’s not as obvious they aren’t using the puppet. Probably just a quick and easy mask to put on and off so he’s not trapped in it all day and any movements of the mouth, trunk, or eyes are likely cgi enhancing.

Really only started watching this because my son is going through his Star Wars phase, but gotta say it's been a pleasant surprise so far :)

The Fallout videogame inspiration is growing.

In the first episode the careers test was reminiscent of the G.O.A.T. (Generalized Occupational Aptitude Test).

Then there's the issue of being forbidden by the "Supervisor" to go beyond "The Barrier", akin to being locked in a vault by the Overseer.

The allusion to a vault continues with At Attin being a fabled treasure planet, and with valuables customarily locked in vaults to safeguard them.

The show may also be recalling Han Solo and the Lost Legacy: Xim the Despot, the son of a pirate king, conquered a vast interstellar empire in the Tion Cluster around 25,000 BBY. When he was defeated his fabled treasure ship, the Queen of Ranroon, escaped to the planet Dellalt, where it would be guarded for millennia by war droids and a secret brotherhood known as the "Survivors" descended from the original crew and elite guards on board the ship.

Xim became canon in Solo when the mytag crystal masthead of Xim was shown in Dryden Vos' museum:

Could At Attin be connected to Xim's empire?

So Jude Law actually is Crimson Jack from the Marvel comic.

At least he found some more clothes to wear since 1977!

Let me know how this develops and I might give it a go...

Am I the only one wondering how he got the Crimson part of that name? Unless it's a Dread Pirate Roberts situation, probably best not to ask lol...

Either he shaved his beard and dyed his hair, or he 'borrowed' the name. He also went by the name 'Captain Silvo' in the first episode.

The original Jack got whacked by Han:

And didn't he tell the kids his name was Jod Na or something like that? I guess that makes sense (he wouldn't want the kids calling him by a name that the other pirates would recognize while he's trying to escape), plus it adds to the mystery of his origins.

At this point, who knows if any of those names are his real name. He could be a force sensitive con artist that either goes by many names or has “borrowed” the identity of several people. He does at least seem to genuinely have the Force. Glad Fern even called out some possible explanations for his ability to get the key on the wall. Certainly not a Jedi. Perhaps a Order 66 survivor but not a Jedi anymore at least.
