In my opinion, JND's 1/6 line was doomed from the start for two reasons, the price and the silicone.

With that said I think buyer's remorse has set in for a lot of people because I don't think the final product is much different from the prototype, it always looked like Fred Armisen in Ledger cosplay. The thing is a lot of collectors with the money to spend were allured by JND's promise of introducing the next step of the evolution of 1/6 scale, similar to what InArt did, so they pre-ordered to get that experience.

Now, after JND themselves has warned collectors about the durability of silicone, Hot Toys released their new Ledger Joker (which is arguably the best mass produced Ledger figure at the moment) and the holiday season has passed which resulted in a lot of hurt wallets, people that pre-ordered this are looking at the price and the Fred Armisen sculpt, realizing they don't really want to spend so much money on a figure that offers no substantial improvements over the other offerings from Hot Toys or InArt which are way cheaper.

yeah it took me a few experiences to just prefer to not deal with the headache. people just arent deserving of any of it nor would they even care. some people can just stay blissfully ignorant and enjoy 1/6 at a surface level

I honestly think some folks like it that way and I can understand why. It really is blissful to NOT be so zoned into the details IMO and just appreciate these things for what they are not what they should be. I wish I could be like MRC, or even like my own brother, who looks at these in complete awe and amazement at the detail they do have and not solely focused on what is lacking.

its definitely a curse of knowledge more than something I advocate for people lol even with custom figures, I eyeball them down to the last pore. I'm supervising a tailor and I'm on my 3rd sample, with a planned 4th sample to iron things out before I look for proper fabrics. I cant rest easy without noticing inconsistencies if I've done prior research on the subject

I'm happy for people that can just enjoy things for what they are. its why i decided not to post publically or frequently because i don't wanna be that guy to ruin the fun for them when i point things that aren't right. ill crap on my own figures and why they're wrong, such and such but never is it my intention to lash at other people's figures that i happen to own as well

I don’t have a problem with outlining things that are wrong. I try to be unbiased as possible on FB and write it out in bullet point format with use of photo attachments. I don’t intend to mean it as I’m bashing things per se, but I see why people take it that way.

Some of the FB beef people have with you/get involved in is crazy lol. I’ve had my own arguments and disagreements on here, but the FB stuff can be truly next level

Shame that regardless of what was made that there can't even be a good discussion with those who haven't purchased the set of how this came out, considering it is doing new stuff within the 1/6 mass market field and perhaps could be adopted down the line by other companies.

Dunking on a purchase someone made has been a thing since collecting even became a thing. You make it sound like it’s a new thing that had begun a few years ago.

Honestly It’s all in good fun. We all could use a couple of laughs now and then. Granted Some can take things a bit far, but IMO I don’t think it’s coming from a place of hatred. Just…indifference I suppose. But just gotta learn to roll with it. FYI: I made a purchase 3 months ago and I guarantee you people here would dunk on me for, but why do I care? I love the purchase, thats all that matters.

Eeeehhhhh I don’t know about keeping things balanced…but his attention to detail was appreciated.

What wasn’t appreciated was his passive aggressiveness and ‘playing victim’ when challenged, and the constant need to remind people how much he didn’t like InArts Joker with the worst photos carefully curated just to support his disdain. We could be in a Non Joker thread and he’d somehow slip in how much of a ‘failure’ TDK Joker is.

I’m like…bro. We got it the first hundred times you mentioned it. I ignored him most of the time but eventually had to call him out when his behavior got out of hand.

Sigh…whatever. It’s all in the past. I offered a truce. I don’t know how we left things, but I harbor no hatred for the guy.

Again, when he wasn’t being unreasonable, I did get a sense that he was a decent guy.

I’m with you, Brooklyn. Nick knows his sh*t. And he’s got connections in the custom world and whatnot. There’s no denying that, but he’s incredibly condescending to others and sometimes full of sh*t lol. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth.

Admittedly, I’d push back on his drivel (yes, I know most in here think I spew bullsh*t too).

And it goes without saying, but INART catches a LOT of sh*t from the 1/6 community at large. INART-related discourse is always divisive, combative, and argumentative. As someone who likes their stuff and since Nick has a disdain for them, well, I guess we’re naturally gonna butt heads lol...

This is the way i see it. Some of us have ordered this and would like to keep an open mind until we see the final product in-hand. If Garypool wants to keep an optimistic mindset and make the best of the current situation, don't pile up on him for that.

The youtube live stream was awful with that ugly soft filter. The production photos, i think they did the opposite. They blewup that detail way out of proportion. To the naked eye we will likely see something in the middle. Believe it will be less wrinkly in person. You blow up a close up shot of someone's face where you see all the skin imperfections, stubble, blackheads on the nose, it's not a pretty site either but its there if you photograph all the details.

Some are happy they didn't miss out or dodged a bullet. Thats great.

For those that ordered this, its like we ordered a fancy dinner at a restaurant that had a 9 month reservation time, and before our food comes, others that are not eating there are non-stop saying how the food looks disgusting, unappetizing, the lobster looks radioactive, the soup looks like vomit, the desert looks worse than Costco quality. Come on... we still have to eat after hearing that ! Yes you are entitled to your opinions, but that is essentially what you are doing.

I pre-ordered the Type A, and still hope it comes out well. Could cancel my order, but then the store i ordered from will now have to suffer with an expensive unbought item kept in stock not JND. Unless you order directly from JND, they do not suffer in any capacity, it is retailers that bought stock from them that do. Come on.. we are all adults here (sorta). Agree that this isn't what it was hyped up to be. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. Don't need to knock people while they are down and piss on the corpse.

From what I've read on here, very few, if any, direct references have been made towards specific individuals for exercising their choice to purchase this figure.

Some people have tried to justify their dislike for the figure by drawing comparisons to other figures from other companies - and yes, some have been vocal on how the figure (for reasons) doesn't match up with their expectations.

The general topic - as I have mentioned many times before - seems to be the pricing. Above everything else. Unfortunately, that's NOT a subjective topic, regardless of your income, or ability to be able to afford the figure - it seems to me a question of "not can you afford it, but should you afford it".

IMHO - I personally see no particular issue with the figure (artistically) - it's Heath Ledger in face paint - opinions will vary how well that's done - but to me, it looks as good (or bad) as all of the others. I'm not blind, however, and I can read the impression more passionate collectors of this character are judging this piece - so, from that perspective alone - I guess it's a "fail".....just based on the collective "expert" opinion (and I'm no expert on H.L. Joker)

But all of this has left me wondering IF there is a red line in pricing, that 1/6 should never cross. I hear about the customs world, and how expensive that is - (but, to me that's just self flagellation - you need to specifically seek out that form of pain, and therefore should be ready to accept it) - but in the mainstream mass production world of 1/6 - what would a company need to provide to seriously justify such a leap in price that we see from JND, InArt and some Hot Toys? - is it really enough, at this point to just get the likeness "right"? Is it just some fancy eye movement or a semi sophisticated endo skeleton that allows a company to charge - what - 3 x as much as a "conventional" figure? Should we really be congratulating a company for doing a reasonable job with tailoring? I mean, take a look at the military figures if you want to see excellent tailoring - why shouldn't that be infinitely easier with some of these fantasy costumes?

Or -is it simply a point that were being ripped off - the companies have seen what the whales are willing to spend, and they're now just simply charging more because they can? If that's the case, who cares how good or bad this JND Joker is, no matter what the result, we're being taken for a ride, surely that's not a good thing?

Luckily since @TheBatman blocked me, I've not encountered it as much.

While I agree the price is high, I preordered this figure (version A) due to its innovative endoskeleton under silicone skin and magnetically controlled eye movement.
As a collector since the early 90s, I'm continually amazed by advancements in the field. From vintage Mattel He-Man and Kenner Ghostbusters to owning 1:1 silicone busts rivaling, if not even better than Madame Tussauds', each breakthrough astounds me.

And now we have this. And I am glad that the first figure is HL Joker.
Such a fitting character. And for me, the likeness is good (I also have the InArt rooted Jokers).
That is also the reason why I preordered Robosen Buzz Lightyear. An animatronic Buzz that you can use to make your own live-action Toy Story movie.
This technology is phenomenal, such a fantastic creation!

For now, I can't wait to have this Joker figure in hand and pose him.. but my excitement tempers when I remember the pending balance.

Luckily I'm a neutral guy as far as the politics and these figure brands go Whoever makes a specific character better has my vote and $.

Dunking on a purchase is fine to an extent and of course happens in most places, voice your negative opinion a couple times and move on. It's clearly not new and happens a lot, obviously, but not to this extent.

When I had Inart joker on pre-order and cancelled and made my views of it in the thread I was asked if I could stop because other people were looking forward to it, so I stopped, I made my views clear and what was I achieving beyond that except to sour other collectors purchase?

It's compounded a tonne in this thread by the same users who have no interest in it beyond shitting on it. That is trolling, it's not in good fun. Which is why I say it's not a good look for fans of other figures to come into a thread that don't even have a pre-order to say it never looked good and still doesn't look good etc.

Again, voicing the opinion is fine, but more than twice or so with no intention other than to ruin it for other people is trolling at that point and isn't in good fun, it's being a toss pot.

Looking forward to what you think seeing as you've been in the game since the 90's!

I've only been collecting since 2013 but am excited to see these developments regardless of risk factor.

For me (no I'm not rich, I sacrifice and work hard to get items that I would like), two whole figures with two different portraits and the other new features is worth the money.

I actually hold the clearly opposing view here of being tired of companies making bog-standard industry process figures but increasing the price 100's every year or so whilst offering nothing new and the tech and process becoming lower cost.

I 100% agree on this - it's exactly what I feel when I look at products from Sideshow, Tweeterhead, PCS, XM - and to some extent Prime1 - these companies are making Statues like it's 1999 (oh Prince, how you are missed) but steadily increasing pricing - just, because....

While people (me included) **** on some of the offerings from JND, Queen, Infinity and Blitzway - it's no secret how these companies are pushing the boundaries of what "statues" can be - sure, there's a vocal element, that say that Statues have crossed the line into Dolls - and I would agree with that - but, to me, that just means I'm now a Doll collector.....and I still love poosay - so, no harm done there!

Yes, the risk factor is always there. Silicone deteriorates, but nowadays we have medical silicone used for figures and statues.. and the right technology to make sure it lasts. (like for instance.. don't ever put them as your outdoor garden gnome).

With the right combination of home appliances such as AC, dehumidifier, humidity/temperature indicator, and acrylic case, they can last up to 30 years, at least. And after that, it's not that they are going to melt. They just got dried and might have small cracks.

If only the Jim Henson TMNT costumes are made from medical silicones! Always sad to see them rot like that. (even though NECA did a great job taking a poke at that).

I'm just like you, mate. I worked hard to get them figures and statues. And if I don't already have the InArt two-pack, I might go in the same direction.

Yes, I shared that view too in some cases..
All the new HT figures have the separate rolling eyeballs feature, priced similarly to previous figures without this feature, which irritates me. For example, Spider-Man Tobey (no separate rolling eyeballz) and Green Goblin's green armor (with rolling eyeballs, but without glide), both at almost the same price, around $300– released relatively close together. It seems HT previously enjoyed substantial profits until competition forced them to innovate and adjust their pricing strategy.
