The thing about this Clayface figure is.. I saw a few comments that said they are purchasing this as their first Mondo Batman animated figure.

The figure is so darn good-looking, that people who don't collect this mondo series are buying it.

Btw I just checked on my order status..
Clayface is not labeled as "Timed Edition" or "Limited Edition".. he is labeled as "Exclusive".
The last one I got that has that label is Man-Bat, but that is because he is an SDCC exclusive.
Wonder why..
I wonder if the increased exposure on IGNā€™s ā€œexclusive first lookā€ article boosted general awareness and quicker sell out.

Around 2012 (?), I never heard about Hot Toys until IGN had an article about the 1:6 Superman Christopher Reeve. The EX with kryptonite was sold out but I got on the waitlist, which converted several weeks later:

That tipped the first domino into spending thousands of dollars on previously side hobby.

DAMNIT! This is the 3rd Mondo BTAS exclusive I've missed out on IN A ROW! I really wish Mondo would give us some advance notice whenever a new figure was about to drop or, at the very least, go back to making these exclusives a timed editions. :gah:

If I did not follow this forum (or social media in general), I would easily miss figures like this and pay scalper prices for the EX.

I wish Mondo would send out an email newsletter a few days before the PO. For some reason, they usually donā€™t send the announcement until the PO goes live.

And then Mondo does a livestream promoting it later in the week, when the limited figure is potentially sold out already.

For all of JNDā€™s faults, I like how they blast 3 or 4 teaser video emails a couple weeks before the PO goes up to give collectors a heads up.

Looking solely at the REG I think I wouldn't even be mad if I was late to the party - that thing is so dope. But I know myself, as soon as I'd compare it to the EX, seeing all the additional stuff a measly extra $20 would have gotten me (including arguably the 3 most creative accessories in the whole set) I think Iā€™d feel a little suicidal.

Honestly that's how I felt about the BTAS Harley Quinn, I missed out on the Timed Edition (as I wasn't collecting Mondo 1/6 at the time) and saw that for only $15.00 more you got the Hyena's - so even though the Regular Edition was still (at the time) available, I made it a point to find someone selling the Timed Version as I knew if I got the Regular Edition I would just be constantly reminded and annoyed that the Hyena's were missing

My struggle with Mondo still remains the price point. For what these are they just seem way high priced.

I definitely agree these look awesome but are still overpriced - especially with the inherent QC issues such as paint chipping and bad joints (the recent Spider-Man being a particularly egregious example)

Agreed, all of their licensed properties are overpriced for the level compared (the properties are mostly just bigger retail action figures for the most part). I really have to mull over each one before buy/no buy.

I mean 1 hour and 47 minutes isnt too bad, its honestly much longer than I thought it would hang around for
šŸ˜² I thought he went superfast, but Iā€™ve only been doing these Mondo drops since Poison Ivy, so I don't have much experience with other drops to compare this one to. Of course Iā€™ve heard about how quickly Rogue sold, like 10 minutes or something crazy like that, but I take it she was a bit of an outlier? Do you remember who sold the fastest in this line? Was it Man-Bat?

Yeah i feel like these are bit overpriced. originally they were easier to swallow. I remember buying the Black Batman (undersized), Catwoman Exclusive and Mr. Freeze Exclusive for like around $160 each. Now we're hitting $300 (after tax) with Clayface. I ended up starting to collect the line when I saw how awesome the Phantasm looked on a shelf. I was able to get some nice deals on entertainment earth ($50 off $300, so two figures around 200 each was around 175) around the holidays and I think Mondo site had some coupon for their Man-Bat and Harley Quinn so I got back into it. I'm hoping the Joker preorder on Entertainment Earth is real and won't get canceled.

I wanted to collect the X-men line but way too expensive to try to get both BTAS and X-men.

If they were around $150 Iā€™d justify them easier. Still a lot but Iā€™d be more willing. I just donā€™t see why there are priced like Hot Toys.

My guess is, that each one of these figures have to have brand new, multiple molds. No reuse. Thatā€™s expensive and there arenā€™t as many made.

That might be the case as well.
So if Man-Bat is "SDCC Exclusive".. then Clayface is "IGN first look Exclusive"!

I feel you about Hot Toys and this hobby.. I bought my first Hot Toys in 2008.. so yeah. o_O

True.
And also maybe because Mondo is aware of the aftermarket price of their figs.

This Clayface got Hot Toys price, but somehow I think he looks so damn cool that I don't mind paying this much for him.
This is for me, the perfect animated Clayface figure!
