1/6 Hot Toys - Robocop 3 - Robocop Collectible Figure.

It's wild that so many people can't see that their faceplates are not properly seated. I think even the Sideshow video had a couple of shots like that. It's not subtle.

Not just lighting; they literally had to repaint it daily.

They might not have been aware that this is something the customer base cares about until they heard it in response to the video. They can't be neck deep in every single fandom, and RoboCop is a niche property, right? And the last figure came out ten years ago--most of the people working there...

While the main cast are largely repeating the same stories we've heard for years, the doc features basically everyone they could find from the production--i.e. most of the bit parts--and those people all have some pretty amusing anecdotes that are all new to me. So far it's well worth the price...

Maybe I'll pick up an airbrush and do some tests see if I can do this to a satisfactory level of quality--maybe do a test run on my MMS202. Wouldn't want to ruin the finish, but the gloss is an eyesore.

As Hologram mentioned, the black parts of the suit in RoboCop 1 had a less glossy appearance (I don't know if satin is the right word, but that's what I call it). Regarding the helmet, it should have the same finish as the suit. In RoboCop 1, however, the suit was made of a more flexible...

Yeah, I know it's been done--I was asking if anyone active in the thread had experience doing it (this one looks like a DarkSpidey piece and I don't think he's active here anymore).

Has anyone here done a repaint/refinish of the black portions before? I'm curious if it's something I could do myself.

I have two, and neither broke. It can happen. It is more likely to happen because of the clear plastic. That does not mean it is going to happen. It looks legitimately fantastic here--much closer to the titanium grey it should be. Legitimately curious how this thing will look in my display.

It's not laziness, it's just common sense. Making new molds is expensive, so making new molds for a portion of the figure that can't be seen and in no way impacts the product makes no sense. Now, not getting rid of the lights on the DX stands despite the fact that they took the electronics...

Just of of curiosity--did you ever do one with the matte/satin black parts? I'm kinda wondering if it's something I could do myself--since spraying something uniform black wouldn't seem like it requires any special technique. That said, I'd be worried about how to cover up the rest of the suit...

That looks like a Kevin Ferrer job. And yeah, the satin finish on the black parts is a huge improvement. The glossy black is of this figure is actually accurate to RoboCop 2 and 3--though I'm sure we would have all preferred the R1 look.

Ok, so the side-by-side show there is indeed a significant improvement here. Obviously it isn't Kevin Ferrer-quality, but we knew that was never going to happen. Something that I found really helped the overall appearance of my MMS202 was putting it inside an Apextime Chaos Infinite display...

This is just the Sideshow video, re-edited and respoted by someone else.

It is, but there's no way to know how much of a role lighting and post-processing play in the photo until people starting getting this thing in hand.

Obviously, if this is how things look, that would be a huge improvement. But it's difficult to assess just exactly how the thing looks based on the wild variance in the available photos.

    Hot Toys MMS 692 + 693 BATMAN (1989) 1/6 scale Batman 2.0

You are right to be wary. Between oversauration of the market and a shift in the economy, there was absolutely a swing towards peg-warmers and deep discounts, and as a result prices all went down. Someone on the aftermarket couldn't sell a figure at a premium if it was sitting on Sideshow's...

I'm keeping this because one day they dreaded clear plastic may strike my MMS202--and this does appear to be at least a (very) minor improvement. Enterbay remains the crowned king of Robo action figures, though.

I see this argument a lot, and while I'm not defending HT or this figure, it's important to acknowledge that mass producing a product isn't simple and can pose different challenges than a customizer creating a one-off. Cost is the big one, but just as an example: it's easy for me to make a...

1/6 Hot Toys - Robocop 3 - Robocop Collectible Figure.

I don't know who the bigger joke is: HT for not delivering the improvements they specifically advertised, or me for thinking they would. We probably should have known better when they didn't do the a side-by-side comparison in the promo photos, which is something they usually do when they are...
