    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

I'm going to have to disagree with spindrift (respectfully) and agree with abake and qualitymm, and it's not so I can toot my own horn (although I do appreciate the praise! :wink1:). What spindrift is calling "quality tailoring and detail" is just me figuring out what they did wrong and undoing...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Thanks guys!! It's very flattering to be asked to customize or produce stuff for others, and someone else had PM'd me to ask the same thing earlier. However, before I get asked by more people, I'm going to have to let everyone know I do this strictly as a hobby and for my own enjoyment (even if...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Thanks, guys! --------------------------------- So IMHO the single worst piece of kit of this figure is the cloak, if you can even call it that. More like a "cape-let" fit for Batgirl, not a Rohan warrior! The fabric is a flimsy t-shirt jersey material, the color and shape not even close, and...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Thanks all for all the feedback! I haven't had this much "fun" (you know, in that obsessive/compulsive 1/6 project kind of way :gah::thud:) in the hobby for a while now. Most of my stuff has been WWII (used to post in SAG and 6th D), with some recent stuff in RC planes and vehicles, but I...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Yes, the scabbard is all plastic, no pleather on it at all. So I finally finished my baldric. I cut the long strap out of a very thin fine real leather labeled "glove leather" at Michael's. It was expensive but the piece is giant and unblemished, probably a whole lambskin, and will fill my...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

There aren't too many differences but if anything yours is better. You stated your scabbard was made of pleather. The production one (I have two) is made of hard plastic. It also looks like they configured the baldric/harness correctly in yours, with the rear scabbard strap coming off the rear...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Thanks Sankari and Wor Gar! "Obsessive" is probably more accurate a description than "care and passion!" :cuckoo::wink1: And Wor Gar, yes, your first review was read and much appreciated before I even started actively posting. It gave me a more realistic notion of what to expect, and also...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Before I get to the chainmail, I forgot to mention I shortened the legs. As Wor Gar mentioned, the figure body is extremely long legged, more like an anime figure. Since we're modeling this after an actual human named Miranda Otto (who from celebrity photos on the red carpet and such looks to be...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Hey YDG, excellent review with some great pics! Oh yes, and thanks for clearing it up for me, "baldric," that's what it's called!:slap :) I've been thinking of doing a blow by blow review and grading each piece and then giving it a final grade, but haven't had the time. I would probably be a...

One of the challenges for me was finding the right fabrics for the dress she wears underneath as well as for the cloak. That's right, it's called a dress in the sources I've found, not a tunic. First of all, Asmus picked a fabric that was overly thick and textured, and then they designed and...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Finally made some progress over the weekend, so I thought I'd share some updates. First, the belt harness, which is still ongoing but is almost there. Here's how it looks stock: Here's how it should look: Here's my first go at it: All the little belt tips have been removed and reattached...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Just a quick update on my WIP: I removed the helmet strap and made my own with working buckle. Straps and buckle are both leftover pieces from DML German helmets. I never throw anything out so I have baggies full of scrap pleather straps from the fifteen years of my bashes and custom projects...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Good to see someone else getting theirs as well now. Good info and pics! I've now ordered the WK since I know I'll be getting the new body. Question to you YDG: Does your vinyl cuirass have that sticky, tacky feel to it like mine? Also, the long strap on the scabbard harness on mine is also...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

BTW, I have good news for those who preordered Eowyn and were hoping to get the new WK body: I got an email back from Ekia saying that Asmus was sending those separately, and they will be shipping it to me when they arrive, possibly in the next two weeks. So I expect other vendors will do the same.

That's where I got mine from, and it was a good experience. Price was great, shipping reasonable, and I think they shipped as soon as they received it (shipped Saturday, I got it Monday). I read some glowing reviews of them over on OSW as well.

Here are my "after" pics on the hair. As you can see I've done some extensive cutting and styling to try to approach the "movie look" of Eowyn's hair. It's still not perfect/accurate but it's probably the best I can do given the limitations of my skills and of how they manufactured and curled...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

Okay, so here are some initial pics so you see what you get out of the box. I would have posted sooner but I wanted to work on the hair first so I could show you before and after shots. As you can see the hair is a curly frizzy mess out of the box, at least it was on mine. Actually, in these...

    Asmus Toys: Eowyn in Armor

I received mine on Monday from Ekia Hobbies and it looks pretty good. However, it didn't come with the extra Morgul Lord body which I thought would be included on preorders. I was thinking of buying the WitchKing at BBTS to complete the vignette but I was concerned about getting the old vs new...
