I think the legs is largely posing, though I’m sure some adjustments had to be made for the character to be able to stand and support its own weight as well, especially given its stature and the materials used.

I also am a fan of the classic eyes but my theory is that they were probably difficult to emote. Narrowing an expanding a shape like that can looking pretty wonky compared to the one they went with.
