Is anybody here familiar with RUBIES 1:1 scale Star Wars helmets? Are they just something one would wear for halloween, or are they anything close to let's say Master Replica's helmets? I seriously don't know. Never heard of 'RUBIES' before. I love the MR helmets, but I think they are seriously overpriced. And, MR's policy regarding 'limited editions' doesn't really help to make me spend that sort of cash for their products. So, I'm looking for a reasonable alternative. I came across this RUBIES stormtrooper helmet on ebay, but don't know what to expect, since I've never seen one of RUBIES creations in person. Hence my query...

Heard of Rubies, but I have no idea of their quality.

But if youre looking for a quality stormtrooper helmet, go find a SD Studios one.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at the sites. Hope the quality is good enough to convince me...

EDIT: they look swell, but are also very expencive. Here's a little bit of info I found on Rebelscum:

Shepperton Design Studios has successfully been sued by Lucasfilm for unfair competition, as well as copyright and trademark infringement, making claims Andrew Ainsworths involvement in the genesis of the stormtrooper helmet questionable. You can read the outcome of the court case for more details.

Do not buy the SDS Stormtrooper helmet. Not at all worth the asking price, trust me. Ainsworth's whole selling-point and justification for the ridiculous premium price was the "original moulds" claim... and that looks dubious, at best.

The upcoming Master Replicas bucket is nice and very fairly-priced, but it's also not screen-accurate being a hybrid of different Stormtrooper helmets.

If you have some craftsmanship skills, you're much better off finding a fan-made kit based one the "Fellano" molds. You can get them for about 1/4 - 1/3 the price of the SDS and if the right person finishes them you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference (other than the fact that the Fellano kits are usually heavier and more sturdy than the SDS helmets).

That's legit, it is the CE version produced by MR; I actually have this one myself. It doesn't come with the plaque or stand, and is not asymetrical; but for the price it was good for my needs at the time. That is overpriced, I got mine for about $100 shipped. It isn't nearly as good as the LE that MR made or the eFX for that matter, but again it comes down to what your purpose is.

Well I guess my purpose is to have a replica (for the most part) of the Stormtrooper helmet in ANH. I am not interested in the "perfect" helmet from the special editions or JEDI I want the OG ones. Seems kind of cool for $100 bucks or so.

Thanks for the info LOTRfan, how is the quality? Are we talking Don Post masks? :lol and thanks Amanaman.

I don't think you will be disappointed, that was similar to my intent as well - I had similar goals as well; not like I was dressing up anytime soon.

Cool thanks man. Oh and that Redford films link seems to be the symmetrical one, bummer.

p.s.-love the sig

Thanks for the info jkno. I went ahead and bought the cheaper MR one. It's good quality, and an good representation of the Stormtrooper helmet. I got it new for about $80, couldn't resist.
I'd love to have a MR Vader helmet one day. Maybe I come across a good deal or trade one day.

I like the MR CE helmet too. It's really nice and the only 2 cons are the lack of the stand and plaque (but i got custom made ones), and the somehow obvious seam in the front. But otherwise it is a great helmet and worth every penny.
