Now that's the point we were talking about. The stock paint job isn't bad, but it's like they played it safe by making it rather cleaner than it should be.

Yeah the stock paint still looks quite good as far as quality goes, but like you said it's way too clean. Its possible they might have chose that route for consindecy, so the paint job on each piece looks the same.:dunno

A big part of "playing it safe" probably comes down to licensor approval. Most licensors want companies producing "idealized" versions of characters vs exactly what is seen on screen.

it's nice to see how a simple repaint makes it look so much better. I'm still torn on if I want to wait for a 1/3 , if one even comes.

Yeah, that happens, and I actually have first-hand experience with that at work. However, I discounted that possibility as it would be a bummer for the licensor to allow Hot Toys and Enterbay to do the messier face paint look more akin to some of the best scenes from the film then they'd suddenly ask for a more idealized look on what could be the most life-like representation of Ledger Joker in mass production.

I figure I'm in the minority, but I don't think the messier paint works with the statue's lack of expression, which if anything, is going for a subtly sinister feel. The running/smudged makeup, accurate or not, turns it into a horror piece for me.

We already know Batman, Bane, and Catwoman are coming in 1/3, so it's probably safe to assume Joker will eventually too.

Speaking of... does anyone know if we'll see the 1/3 Nolan pieces at SDCC? I haven't spotted any pics yet.

So you'd rather have something that isn't representative of how he looked in the movie at all? That makes sense.
