I’m on the waitlist for the sculpted cape version, I usually prefer sculpted capes. In this case though, idk, that cloth cape looks really well done, like the best I’ve seen on a statue before in terms of quality, and the added turning feature could come in real handy especially considering the size of this piece. I’m also slightly concerned about leaning issues due to the weight of Superman himself with how he appears to peg into the base, the lower weight could prevent those issues overtime. The only negative with the cloth is even though I think it looks better in the pictures then the sculpted, I don’t like futzing capes or fiddling around with stuff like that, it ****s with my ocd.. if they weren’t so expensive I’d just preorder the cloth and wait to see if my waitlist converts for the scuplted then decide, but the nrd is too much to piss away. I may just go cloth and be done with it, I’ll just make my wife futz with it

Just po’d the fabric edition. Those side profile views with the fabric cape look much better imo. Now I just have to figure out where I’ll be displaying this monster and the other 2 prime 1 1/3 scales monsters I have on order. Btw I am surprised there is no es, has prime 1 done that before?? I don’t recall them ever putting a po up without es before, hopefully it’s about the same as the sculpted version

Agreed. The base is already very wide, having the option of angling it a bit to "shorten" that width and rotating the pillar to keep the statue looking centered or whichever direction you want will really help. The leaning is also something I'm worried about and something we may never see until years down the road when we won't be able to do anything about it with regards to returns. The futzing of capes is all about patience and know-how, you have to practice with it. I spend an hour sometimes with my Doom PF cape but the things you can get with it are pretty amazing as others have commented after I post pics, and Prime 1 capes are much stronger and of better quality than Sideshow's. It's like with model kit building, something that I don't have the know-how to do, you just gotta play around with it carefully, some people have the knack for it, some don't, nothing wrong with that but I notice that's one main reason for some choosing one over the other. A lot of the production prototype photos are very basic, they didn't pose much, only the bottom part of the cape, the rest just drapes down. The flapping in the wind poses turn out to be the best ones, in my opinion, because it gives the cape character, so don't go by their photos.

e.g. (if I get Origins Batman, I'll post some nice ones I aim to try)

If only there was a 1/4 scale version of this exact statue! That would be awesome!

A lot of people are slaves to 1/4 scale and therefore forced to buy thinking of that first rather than execution of a piece.

This hobby is too expensive for compromises and settling for something lesser just because of scale.

I agree. Once you have a 1/3, your 1/4th’s start to not look so hot lol.

I only have 1 now (Miller Batman) but I have the Superman and Batman Hush on PO and I’ll definitely be getting Catwoman.

I get that they’re huge and expensive, but if you really like the character in question then get the best one available. And I’m not sure there will be a better Superman than this one.

All good points but not everyone has the space to display many 1/3 scale statues, especially when they have huge bases like most Prime 1 statues. I only have a single modest sized room to display my stuff in so only two statues will be possible for me at this scale. This will be my Superman, it's just so damn perfect, and then I'll be looking for a Batman. Not sold on the Hush Bats so I'll wait and hope we get a blue and grey Miller statue.

It would be cool if they did more at 1/4 scale for those of us without a ton of space. I was briefly tempted by the Sideshow rebirth Superman but this Hush piece is just in another league. I'll make room somehow.

Blame Sideshow for keeping that license under lock and key. Prime 1 would probably dominate them if they gave them the rights.

Nature of the business is probably not to give them everything in one or else people will not buy anymore. There's always an ace in the hole for the next one... Prime 1 seems to try to give us everything they can in one shot because of what they're limited to, which is why every piece is given the quality and care and various switch-outs since it's most likely one and done for the next few years.

In my brief time looking at these statues Prime 1 put Sideshow and Hot Toys to shame for attention to detail. The speed with which they respond to feedback can only be applauded.

At least I have plenty of time to make room for this. Realistically with delays we'll be lucky to see this before the end of 2019.

Perhaps buying less and making room for fewer pieces in 1/3 is something to consider. The room is there, it's probably just being used by way too many 1/4 statues.

Ultimately the issue is not getting the high of pre-ordering and getting that package in the mail with as much frequency. The 1/4 scale makes it more feasible for people to stay more active in the hobby, but some of us have decided that less is more when it comes to comics statues.

A lot of people are also slaves to 1/3 scale. People will turn down a 1/4 scale even though the statue is well executed ...because they prefer 1/3 scale. This hobby is even more expensive if you buy only 1/3 scale statues.

Settling is when a collector buys a statue even if that collector knows the statue doesn't meet expectations. I only buy statues that I like and meet my expectations. Passing on this 1/3 scale statue of Superman ...even though I like it a lot ...is not settling. Its called a choice. I made a decision to stay away from 1/3 scale ...and I'm keeping to it.

Interesting. For me, scale was never a factor to a statue's aesthetics. The sculpt, proportions, pose, paint app and dynamics are some of the factors that I look at for a statue's aesthetics ...but never scale. Scale was always with regards to space considerations.

Also, I always expect a better statue will come along. This P1 Jim Lee Superman is awesome ...but I don't think it will be the one and only. I believe a better Superman statue will come along. That's why I'm not desperate to get this 1/3 scale statue. I'll admire it from afar ...but I'm not going to sweat it.

I agree 100%.. more is not always better. Im at the point now where i prefer quality over quantity. If i set a budget of 5k per year id rather spend that 5k on 5 statues (prime 1) i really like then 10 statues of lessor quality (ssc pf)

For me it goes back to volume of preorders along with how many characters you want in your home. The hobby is as expensive as you make it if you have that need to buy a lot of pieces/characters. Three 1/3 statues at $3000 is the same spend as six 1/4 at $3000 total. The choice of staying locked in on a certain scale works for us and against us. Sideshow cultivated that and a lot of people are mentally locked in. The irony here is that people have these ideas of teams in 1/4 scale that will be completed...and they won't. We literally just hit another refresh cycle on DC PFs with repeats galore.

I can't think of any other Superman statues better than this one on any other scales. It takes into account not just Jim Lee but a pure comics version. No crazy Sideshow stylized outfit, no weird face expressions, pretty decent anatomy, good art direction, etc. Everything else including what's been done in 1/4 falls short and I don't see Sideshow taking this type of care anytime soon. Sideshow are the same guys who wouldn't do a lot of stars on Wonder Woman's first comic PF and couldn't add the yellow symbol on a sculpted cape for the first Supes PF. Their focus on volume (what's the maximum ES number we can make for a particular sculpt) restricts their creativity as well as the need to stay within a 1/4 scale price point.

Given prices are on the rise, this Superman is a great deal. It's your choice to pass of course as it is your collection. I just disagree with the choice of sticking to 1/4 when the better execution (in my opinion) is happening in other scales and not done by Sideshow who has 1/4 DC statues on lock. That's just me.

Apart from the HT 1/4 DKR Batman figure I don't have anything else above 1/6 scale right now. This will be my first statue unless I order something else that releases first. :lol

I've grown tired of all the movie related stuff from HT and want some comic book pieces instead. The only movie statues that could tempt from Prime 1 would be a Keaton Batman and Reeve Superman if they ever get round to making those.

Have P1 done a comic book Flash in this scale or got anything planned? Not a fan of the New 52 look they did in 1/4 scale. Also not sold on the Batman pose from this line so I'll wait for something else that will look good with this Superman. Catwoman could tempt me depending on how that looks but otherwise I'll focus on the core DC heroes.

The only other prime 1 flash option besides new 52 is the flash tv show version

I collect 1/7, 1/6, 1/5 and 1/4 scale statues. And I started collecting 1/10 scale statues as well. So I know what you mean about better execution in other scales. And I don't only buy from SideShow. That doesn't mean I PO statues in mass, tho. I'm very selective in the statues I buy. I PO only the statues I think are exceptional to me. I believe in quality over quantity as well.

But ...like I said ...I had to cut it off somewhere ...so decided to cut it off at 1/3 scale. Although I respect your opinion that this Superman statue is exceptional ...since I like it too ...I believe there will be other exceptional statues of Superman to come. And they all won't be in 1/3 scale.

Really hope they put some kind of texturing to the sculpted cape like this. To smooth looking right now to me.
