Brief Introduction

The training for F-14 pilots is extremely rigorous, involving multi-stage selection and training processes. Pilots first complete basic flight training within the Naval Aviation Training System, then proceed to advanced fighter training courses, and finally receive specialized training in F-14 specific training squadrons. This specialized training emphasizes carrier-type landings from the first flight and continues until the pilot completes the Carrier Qualification (CQ) phase. Emphasis is placed on being able to return to the ship, as a pilot’s ability to fight and employ weapon systems is irrelevant if they cannot land on the carrier. They must also learn to operate advanced radar and missile systems in complex maritime environments to ensure fleet safety.

DID proudly presents the 1/6 US Navy Fighter F-14 pilot, which will come with two iconic headsculpts: one of “Tom,” handsome and calm, and the other of “Nick,” with a serious and composed expression, and a firm, sharp gaze. Both headsculpts vividly capture the pilots’ steady demeanor.

In terms of attire, there are two flight helmets (one red and one silver-painted), an oxygen mask, a blue T-shirt, a white T-shirt, and a classic one-piece flight suit. The flight suit is realistic in design and has excellent attention to detail. A classic pilot LPU-23 life preserver, survival vest, CSU-13B/P Anti-G suit, a pilot torso harness, and a pair of black military boots made of genuine leather are also included. The combination of these outfits is a faithful reproduction of the F-14 pilot’s attire.

As for accessories, there is a survival radio for communication during flights, two MK-13 flare smokes, a flashlight for illumination, a pair of pilot sunglasses, a signal strobe light, two dog tags, and a folding emergency knife. Additionally, there are two sets of exclusive pilot patches, which add richness to the details and represent the pilots’ identity, affiliated units, honors, and achievements. This action figure allows collectors to freely DIY two pilots and can be combined with MA80181 to recreate classical scenes. With such high playability and excellent value, how could you miss out?

PS: MA80181 and some accessories shown in images are NOT included in MA80182. Please refer to the MA80182 part list for all included accessories.

I didn't expect them to put the two different sculpts and helmets in the same set.

Means if you want to display both you'll need two sets, and will end up with extra heads and helmets.

Though if I was buying these I'd always find some use for extra sculpts.
Yeah, the never ending money pit 😂 I feel the need, the need for speed! And I better sell some stuff to pay for it :panic:

I'm confused - are they showing Maverick b/c the gear that comes with this set is accurate to the original movie while the older Maverick figure has gear that's accurate to the sequel?

They're also showing Maverick with metal aviator sunglasses so is that something they will be updating with the "civilian" set?

I think so, just to illustrate that you can make all three pilots by combining the set with leather jacket Maverick.

The Iceman/Goose set comes with two pairs:

Dark Aviator SunglassesX2

But they show three different kinds:

Maverick's are a different design again:

I don't know which are correct.

With all the quality DID are capable of, I never understand why they persist in giving their figures oven mitts for gloves...

Facepool do it the old fashioned way and they look so much better:

In hand it's also so much more satisfying to have gloved hands that can actually grip things, rather than DID's un-cooperative bendy fingers, which were a hangover from Dragon Models' days.

It was with the arrival of Buck that I realised Facepool had knocked DID off the top spot as my favourite 1/6 military company:
