Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston project

I'm new to Doctor Who collecting, but I have a Detolf case full of stuff now. I was into life size collecting, so that took up space quick, heck I have an 8 foot Hulk in my garage.

I think I'm getting the concept of sculpting the hair now, what do you guys think so far? I still want a few more layers, but I hope it's getting there.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston project

Can we get a picture of Hulk? That sounds awesome.

The hair is definitely looking good. Your talents definitely transferred to 1/6 sculpts!

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston project

I've ordered everything except the vest and shirt for the War Doctor so far and this evening I tested out if I could make his scarf with the chevron pattern on it.
I printed it on white cotton fabric on both sides and it turned out pretty cool. I figured I'll just fray the ends a bit and then glue on some loose strands.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Fray the ends with sandpaper or use a pin to pull out individual threads. That scarf looks great! I'd definitely buy one with a sculpt. :wink1:

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Frayed the ends and it looks pretty good so far. Just need to buy some thread for the longer bits.
I can't wait for the costume pieces to come in, which will give me the push to finish this quicker. I haven't had time to work in the sculpt more, but probably tonight I'll get a few min. to work with it. I'll also be going to the fabric store to find close materials for the vest.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

I got a bit of fabric today so I decided to sew a waistcoat, since I doubt I will ever find one close enough to my liking. I also attached a bit of tattered string to the ends of the scarf which I will tame down a little more so it's not so furry. I cut up ends of finishing nails to do the buttons and found a "chain" that is more to scale for this size figure. Now I just need his darn body and coat to arrive :p

Wow! Great work on that. So what can you not do? :lol

Apparently, sew straight :lol It was a quick mock up, so hopefully I can do better in my second attempt.

My jacket should be arriving early next week as well as the body, so hopefully I can finish the sculpt this weekend.
Until then, here's a regeneration that I'm sure most of us wished we could have seen on the 50th anniversary special:

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

What jacket is that? :horror Jealous of this figure already.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Just got one. Did you buy that bandolier? Looks better than any I found.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Cool. Mine should be there when I get home. I'll let you know how it looks.
Couldn't find a bandolier either, so I decided to take a few minutes and make it with some faux leather and bendable sculpey. I made sure it could fit his sonic using pieces of wood skewers when I baked it.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Jeez. You're quite the inventor. I have faux leather, but I find it hard to work with. I'm not that patient. I'd definitely be in for a sculpt, bandolier, and scarf if you ever decide to make a run of them. :lol

I've been asked to make a 1/6th wood TARDIS since the BCS is out if some people's price range. Just the shell, nothing fancy on the inside. I'll have to make one for myself if your War Doctor takes off.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Once I have my personal figure done, I'll see what I can do ;) I'd definitely be interested in a Tardis as well. I'm thinking of pre-ordering the BCS one next week, but would love another option.

I finally got a better camera, but still need to learn how to use it. Anyway, here's a picture of my two 9th Doctors:

I raised the head a bit so it's sitting higher on the neck, but I think that makes the figure look a lot better.

I only need one, so I may let the other one go at some point, but I really like that I can have two poses at one time.

The coat didn't come in today for the War Doctor, but I'm hoping it gets here tomorrow so I can snap some new pics.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Got the coat today and I love it! It's a bit more olive than brown, but that should be an easy fix. With a little more futzing with the collar, it's gonna do the trick. I'll be making the leg cover soon, this one on it is just a place setter from some pants I cut up.

I just realized that since I don't need the belt that came along with this for the figure, it can also work for the bandolier. Just add a little more length and the top layer and you're golden. It's a happy surprise to see that and now I can have a second try at making the bandolier.

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

I would surely take a 9 off your hands. Is there a sonic that would be in scale for him?

Your WD outfit is coming along nicely. I wish I could make clothes for mine, I'd save a ton of money. That jacket does look good, I'm glad I got one before they become ridiculously expensive. You don't realize how incredibly jealous I am of your figures. :lol

Re: 1/6: Doctor Who 9th Doctor/ Eccleston and War Doctor/ John Hurt project

Thanks Mudblood, I appreciate that and that's a compliment coming from you since I'm really a beginner in customizing and working in this scale. As for the sonic, the Titan toys vinyl 3" figures have awesome ones for this scale. That's what I've been using in these pictures (first post and pg.3 picture) and the War Doctor sonic is from that line as well and is very well detailed. Maybe a trade can be in our future since I do want a Tardis ;)

As for sewing, I'm fairly new at this as well, so I just wing it. If I can't sew it, I just burn edges or glue it together. In fact, I just sewed the spats and instead of sewing the bottom, I just burned it with a small chef's torch which added a pretty cool weathered effect. I just need to add the buttons, split and buckles, plus a lot of weathering.

Added the straps and buckles and split. Just need buttons and button holes which I'll try to get to tomorrow.

By the way, it must have been the lighting in my living room, but with natural light, the jacket is brown!
