Chinatown. Greatest screenplay, just a masterpiece. All The Presidents Men, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, Walkabout, Dog Day Afternoon, Badlands, Mean Streets (alright I know Walkabout is a bit more arty, but hey)... also that strain of sci-fi that produced Rollerball, Silent Running..

Man Dog Day Afternoon. What a great film that was and based on a true story too. ATTTICCAA!

Yeah 70's was a great decade for films just thinking about it Taxi Driver, Sat Night Fever, Jaws, The Warriors, Star Wars, The Godfather, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, Deliverance, The Deer Hunter to name but a few.

I say Network was the greatest screenplay. More true now than ever before.

I'd argue that; Chinatown is a near-perfect example of screenwriting on a technical level. But Network is an excellent and still-relevant satire, absolutely :)

I am surprised Network hasn't been remade, it's such an obvious, lazy choice for a tiresome modern remake I'm amazed none of the studios have done it ;)

Tsk, now you've made me go and put Chinatown on again. Curse you Wor-Gar, sir, curse you :thwak

Honestly I know people have wishlists but we've seen a good number of 80s franchise figures come out. Not as much in comparison to the heavy hitters but people act like there's been nothing. Multiple incarnations of Terminators, three Robocop figures plus ED-209, the Alien Warrior Xenomorph, a bunch of Predator variants, Marty McFly plus the DeLorean, three Keaton Batman/Bruce Wayne figures along with two Nicholson Joker figures and the Batmobile, John Matrix. A lot of those are relatively recent (at least within the past few years give or take) and there are still things coming this year too like a second Marty figure and now a Doc Brown plus of course Ripley. I think the problem is that some of these figures have a much more limited appeal whether people like to hear that or not. There's more than likely a reason why they don't do as many but they have made a fair amount in my opinion.

I don't need Hot Toys for all my figure needs anyway. I still maintain though without HT you don't get the explosion in 1/6 figure companies over the last 10 years.
A bit like Apple's effect on the phone market.

Hot Toys made a Tech-Noir Schwarzenegger some years back and I will always be eternally grateful to them for that.

Pull out Network instead and revisit that. I guarantee it'll put a smile on your face.

I haven't seen The Hospital in 100 years. George C, right? Love him. I bet that movie is more important today. I don't remember it doing much for me at the time I saw it.

How about an updated Kyle Reese and the new T1/T2 Endoskeleton that was teased, the Penguin and Catwoman they said they were going to do, the new Rocky and Rambo figures they said they were going to do, updated Aliens Ripley and Powerloader they teased, the Robocain they teased, updated versions of Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez. The quarter scale T1 Arnold and Keaton Batman they were going to do (or hell, non-1/4 Disney figures in general).

It's not even asking a lot honestly. Most of that stuff was announced and teased by them and they just didn't follow through. It's not like people are begging for wishlist characters like Tony Montana, the Ghostbusters, Deckard, Axel Foley, Ferris Bueller, John McClane, Conan the Barbarian, the Goonies, or even a new Indiana Jones. People just wany things they said they were going to do or had the license for. It's a bummer how they've handled them (or not handled them).

I agree there's stuff that could still be done and some of those that you mentioned I'd like to see. I'm just saying that they do produce some things from more classic lines but I'm betting there's a reason why they don't make as much. We know from Budget Stark that a lot of the releases that aren't from more modern films don't sell as well in Hong Kong so I'm betting that's somewhat of a factor.

Well yeah, it's because they don't sell as much as all the Iron Man and troopers and Hot Toys is under contract to produce product for those modern movie licenses they gobble up. With 4-5 of these blockbusters every year, we'll never get a chance at what we want. Everyone here understands that I think. I mean it's been made abundantly clear that this other stuff is not a priority for them, you just have to look at their catalogs. It still doesn't make it any less annoying, you know? That was obnoxious how they went on that crazy wanton spree of announcements and didn't deliver. It's hard to forget that. Then you have figures like Ripley that's development has been several years in the making and not only is it in constant delay limbo, it will undoubtedly be a standalone piece as the only thing they do from the line. It's kind of hard for us collectors into Hot Toys' "miscellaneous" lines to get enthusiastic about anything they do, because they're clearly not enthusiastic or passionate about them.

From their perspective though too if they're making that stuff and it doesn't sell as well it's probably not a high priority to do. It's just simple business to go where the money is. That sucks sometimes but its just how it is.

Yup, very true.

Still, nobody has a gun to their head telling them to make the poor decisions they do. Take for instance the Endoskeleton. Could have easily made the more popular T1/T2 Endo instead of the goofy looking Genisys one. So what's going to happen? Inevitably, the Genisys Endo is going to sell poorly and not be good business for them.

And I still think a Pfeiffer Catwoman could compete with the likes of Iron Man and Stormtroopers, certainly do gangbusters compared to Rey, Jyn and Belle. I don't think that's hyperbole. Same with quarter scale T1 Arnold, Keaton Batman and Jungle Hunter Predator. No way would they lose money on those, it's not like the Endo or Bale Batman did poorly. Then again, they haven't even put their QS Vader or Stormtrooper up for sale and those have been years in the making.

At the end of the day, they make what they make, but I still think they could handle some of these licenses a little better. It may not be all of their fault (like Back to the Future, despite being decent looking figures, I bet they don't do very well) but a lot of it seems like their own doing.

I wouldn't even mind them not producing the figures from the 80s classics. Hey if they don't produce them and don't see the market for them fair enough but its when they tease something and then don't follow up on it like they did with the BVS Batmobile, the Delorean Hover version, the 86 Ripley figure and Powerloader, the Robocain figure, the 1/4 scale Predators and the 1/6th scale 84 Endo. Some of them are still even in the hot toys 2017 catalogue. That's the most frustrating part of it all coz it gets your hopes up.

It is all the license hoarding that I have a problem with. If Hot Toys wants to ignore the kinds of films and characters that they initially built their company and its success off the back of, because they now have access to the holy grail of licensing with Disney, then that's their choice. But don't sit on all these other licenses, toss out empty promises, and only actually release a trickle of product - just enough to retain the rights and keep them active. Because that's just underhanded and disingenuous. That's what I resent, personally.
