Well, hot toys can always go back to the rooted hair and have an artisan version of this figure. I doubt it will happen, so just let me dream 🤣

Seriously this would be awesome, but even more than that I want an updated Ripley from Aliens in the powerloader.....

Waited so long for this figure when they first introduced at SDCC with rooted hair. I think it was 2 years after when finally in hand (check my review above). After having it in hand for several months I was disappointed and sold it. No regrets.

Well I think it’s time to tackle my Ripley custom I’ve been putting off for almost a year now!! :panic:

If you know me, you’d know this character and franchise is one of my favorites all time, and the ‘79 Ripley look is near and dear to me. That being said, I’d like to enhance my stock Hot Toys MMS366 figure. I plan to repaint the face – most likely going with 357partment – and then I’ll have to send it to a rooting stylist. TeTsu Studios is usually recommended a ton.

What I’d like to accomplish with the custom figure is to achieve more screen-accuracy, so I’d like the rooted hair to be “put up” like she does in the final act when she realizes she’s the last man standing and is looking for Jonesey the cat. When she’s got the flamethrower, her hair isn’t down, a detail that is often missed by most.

I’ve seen others repaint the suit and touch up the flamethrower, wrist watch and other details, but perhaps I’ll do that afterwards. I’d also like to either grab ankle extenders or a taller body for Ripley (should've gotten the one on Monkey Depot before it sold out :gah: ) – then you’d be able to see the tops of her Converse All Star Hi-Tops better.

Comp showing stock vs 357partment repaint and bottom right showing RF Custom’s excellent rooting. Unfortunately no commissions open. I would’ve definitely liked that but with the hair “up”.

I’m looking at a 8 month turnaround time if I send it off to get repainted and rooted now 😅

Perhaps Hot Toys will come out with a Artisan 2.0, but for some reason I have a feeling they’d prioritize an Aliens (1986) version first which I’d selfishly hope they do instead so I’m in the clear. 😅 Regardless, I think I should get the ball rolling on this custom project. I think it’ll be worth it in the end! :love

The sculpted hair head sculpt looks awesome! Amazing what a little paint can do

I had ankle extenders on mine for a long time, but since she was so short I had to use Kit's 1/2” extensions (filed down and tucked into the boots). It gave her much needed height, but also made her unstable.

Eventually returned her to stock height and posed her leaning and bending forward slightly to help disguise the issue.

I just hope to find either a taller body or do something so the pants end right above the tops of the shoes. On my stock figure, without pulling up and on the pants which results in bunching, it just looks like she’s wearing low-tops.

So they can be that short.

I might find a more secure method of lengthening her legs again.
