Interesting. Looks like it had the Phase 1 Lieutenant helmet markings before they gave him his own 501st specific markings with the Jaig eyes in the show. I shared a fan-made render of that which they overlayed on the reference image you shared.

yeah, the Jaig eyes etc were added later in the design process. but they started with realistic movie accurate designs and translated to animated style for the show. That might be why Sideshow got the pauldron correct on their phase 1 Rex. maybe.

That would make sense, man. And it’d explain why translations to animation looked different is cause they wanted the show to be stylized and imo, more kid-friendly with wacky design choices and cartoonish proportions.

I actually spoke with one of the concept designers (Chris Glenn) behind some of the character models in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and he essentially told me/confirmed that they changed things up for the show simply because it “looked cool” albeit these designs were intended to be the same as in the PT movies.

It’s already been discussed and I had deleted my post before cause I was wanted to touch up my rough edit of what a Hot Toys live-action Wolffe Phase 2 helmet could’ve looked like, more or less on the left vs stock on the right.

But here it is (Yes, I used my iPhone photos app editing tool lol)

It’s been observed thanks to @jaztermareal but just wanted to reiterate the following:

• Addition of black helmet band (all HT clone figures have this, even stock Wolffe should’ve had it as well……). This is a typical/standard detail that ALL live-action clones share.
• Visor redesign in the center matching ROTS Neyo. Thinner lens, thinner trim piece with addition of bridge. Wolffe’s inner visor spikes remain.
• Redesigned “frown” mouth matching ROTS Neyo with “shark tooth” vents. The entire lower mouth section has been elongated slightly with the frown sitting higher on the “face” of the helmet just like ROTS Neyo.
• Redesigned rounded chin opening matching ROTS Neyo.

Open to interpretation – 104th Battalion markings. Because the bottom half was elongated, I felt appropriate to lengthen the white painted spikes further down.

I know most will disagree that this is how Hot Toys P2 Wolffe should’ve looked like, but when considering all the facts and source material, on the left is what he would’ve looked like if translated properly (more or less).

IMO, if they use other live-action elements for other HT TCW based clone figures, they (including Disney Lucasfilm) should’ve done their due diligence and recreated him in this manner. Also, IMO, he just looks more badass. It looks better. It feels better. The design isn’t as angled and wacky since it’s in line with live-action and not the animated model for Wolffe!

That’s all, folks :nana:

Edit: I hope this ends up getting the message across. Looks like @TheClient is dipping out, and that’s cool! I get it, most of this discourse is annoying to most even if what’s being said is how it should’ve been...for live-action.. lol

Merry Christmas, sincerely!!
What is interesting to me is that I immediately gravitated toward the right image as more aesthetically pleasing and the one I prefer. Maybe HT knows what they’re doing…nah, I’m kidding they just got lucky. I really do like the look of theirs though. Well done on the representation of what accuracy could look like though!

It is OK to like the blended look (I like this figure despite the flaws too), just some folk can't admit it isn't accurate and that it would look better if properly translated to realistic (just see D Woons custom figures).
To me it is disappointing as HT COULD do better, but CHOOSE not to. I want to feel like buying the HT is an upgrade over Sideshows inaccurate take but Sideshow phase 1 Wolffe helmet is more accurate than HT! Their phase 2 one is blended like he HT is (maybe HT just relied on Sideshows poor design as basis for theirs) but still, HT is not an upgrade there. It is a real shame. It could have been so much better.

another issue not mentioned is the animated style shoulder antenna that should be Commander Cody style in realistic... but whatever. Let's hope HT hear complaints and either correct parts or offer additional parts. They listened regarding cheek stripes on AOTC reg phase 2 clone and Vaughn helmet issues so maybe they might.

Off topic but I hope we finally see this movie based rifle for the ROTS anniversary figures. HT did the Disney TV weapons (with the wrong figure) when they did the Kenobi 501st figure and they did the video game DC15LE with Purge Commander so maybe they will finally do movie blasters in 2025. An updated Cody with movie weapons and better armour/body (no removable arm gimmick) would be awesome. They could then repaint it for Bad Batch Imperial Cody which would look great with Wolffe

Did Cody and Wolffe ever share a scene? I think Cody had disappeared by the time Wolffe showed up to confront Hunter.

In fact I can’t even think of a battle Wolffe and Cody fought together in the Clone Wars. Feels like Cody and Rex fought with other units a bunch but I can’t think of when Wolffe fought with another battalion, especially the 212th.

doesn't matter if they didn't have scenes together. both served in Empire during Bad Batch and the matching grey paint schemes would make them look good together on a shelf as representing imperial clones
(put orange Cody with Rex etc obviously. am only talking about grey Cody with Wolffe)

I personally am okay without a 2.0, but if they do it and it comes with everything that’s 100% based on his ROTS model, I’m hella upgrading. I’d hope his little chin design is black color too and not gray (like it is in Clone Wars).

While not for me, I can see why a TBB Cody would make Hot Toys a quick buck, I guess lol

I was just curious, I wasn’t trying to discourage the idea.

Never would have thought we're seeing General Grievous, ARC Troopers Fives & Echo, and now Wolffe within the same year time frame. Not to even mention other amazing PT & CW figs too.

2024 is truly a remarkable year for PT & CW collectors.

Plainly InArt is giving HT the heebie-jeebies.

And so they should. HT *needed* a fire lit under their nether regions.

It’ll be cool to see a fully realized display with all these clone characters but with the correct live-action accessories and helmet designs. Not for me though.
