I'm surprised I actually got it to fit.

It's on my third Indy, which I regard as a hybrid, non-film specific version. Since it does fit it allows me to put the Choi recast onto my TOD Indy which seems a good choice since the hat has a good taper to it, as opposed to the Raiders stovepipe of the DX05 and SS ROTLA.

A few more shots of the spare SS ROTLA fedora:

And the recast Choi hat:

Thanks for the additional pics, Kuat. I think the Raiders hat sits a bit too high. I wonder if more of the inside of the hat can be carved out to make it sit lower. The Choi hat seems to sit lower and better.

It's down to the hair except at the back. Much of the visual difference is from the shape of the brim on the sides: the Choi dips down, while the SS ROTLA is straight before tipping upwards.

The recast is a more natural fit, but it's tapered crown best suits TOD.

Nevertheless they're both an improvement over the one that came with the TOD.

I'm not 100% convinced about this sculpt simply because it's either slightly cartoony or looks like a 90s Ford, but it still way better than the other sculpts.

I'd have to see it on an Ezio style body before really making up my mind, if it sits right without modding on that then I might bite.

I carved a little more from the inside of the SS ROTLA 'prop' hat so that it sits a bit more snugly to the hair of the SS TOD sculpt.

Yeah, saw this in hand today at my buddy's place (mine I guess will arrive Monday?) and it really reminds me a lot of the Sideshow German Indy head, though with much better paint apps and more sculpt detail. It has the same large, slightly cartoonish jawline/mouth, smaller close-set eyes, vague goofy smirk and slight caricature vibe overall.

That German Indy head was also oversized. It's amazing to think this recast is smaller than the original sculpt - the recast seemed pretty big to me (didn't have any of my normal ref figs to compare to though.)

It's a very nice head, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed in hand. I've seen some very nice pics and some not so good pics so was secretly fingers-crossed, but the primary thing that kept coming to mind in-hand was "goofy" - despite the really amazing (especially for eBay recast) apps.:(:(:(

Not a lot of customization going on here, I know...
Big thanks again to Kuat and Rogbee for the head-fixing tips...

I think I'm happy... For now... The adventure continues...

Has anyone been able to detect any actual eye color on the MJ recast? The irises appear black in every picture. I forgot to check that when I was looking at it in-hand.

I think the iris is just a shade lighter than the pupil, you have to have it under a spot light to see it. Otherwise it's basically indistinguishable.

Just for reference, here's my original MJ Choi head which I painted. All size issues aside, I think the recast lost some of the likeness in the process somehow.

I think the problem is with the eyes on the recast.

If you roll monkeyjedi's photo (above) until the eyes are hidden, the sculpt looks more like the original.

The solution I have for display is to tilt the head down and to the side, hiding those cold, black eyes.

What's so special about the Ezio body, Roger? Or is it just that you're using that body on your Indy figure?

Nothing really special, and yes, it is the body I have used. It has a decent neck on it and most heads sit quite nicely on it. I have a body like the DX and know the limitations it had and I had to get a longer neck peg for it. I don't particularly want to get another as I'm happy with the Ezio.
