Wasn't 3D printing supposed to lower prices? Lower barriers to entry. 3D printers are getting less and less expensive.

More novice sculptors entering the market, more competition, etc so on and so forth ...

What the hell happened?


Also, Jake Rahmier postted pics of his paintjob on the new Indy sculpt on his Instagram .. I'd post them here, but it seems like wasted effort, because you already know it looks real nice.

inigou is an in demand sculptor, who is a talented and professional artist. saying this boils down to “cheaper printing” is insulting to anyone who makes their living as an artist.

It must take a lot of time and effort to create the sculpts and then print them out. The amount of people that have ordered one already shows there is a clear demand for it as well. I wish head sculpts were cheaper but can understand why they are so high.

Exactly. The dude is doing legit work for actual companies like Big Chief and Kaustic. And the price isnt that drastic. I'm not seeing what the commotion is all about.

Same goes for quality paint work. You want quality. It you want top shelf work. You pay for it. Cheap work is not good. Good work is not cheap as the saying goes.

I think the pricing is fine for a sculpt with a hat. I would however have liked to see a printed version painted first.

I do too.

And yeah it wasnt until I saw Nathan's paint up for his V2 that made me hunt it down.

And I agree with the hat $125 isnt bad at all. His Gump was $145! [emoji54]

Talking of top quality paint work (ha ha) check out this bad boy. My repainted Sideshow head with the nose slightly bent. The hat is from the Sideshow Kingdom Indy. Someone actually sent me this hat and the old Indy head for free when I bought some Indy stuff from them awhile back. They may even be on this forum. I usually always repaint the things I get but I think they did a great job with the hat and so have left it as is.

This is only $10 more than his Smiling Indy which was $115. Why is the price out of line?

It's unpainted. And his previous unpainted releases were not priced this steep. Half that, okay. Sadly, this is a trend that seems to be continually on the rise. It's sad when you get a company like Eleven release decent quality sculpts with decent paint for 35-40USD.

All the sculpts I've seen him produce since my first was Smiling Indy from him have been $100 or more, this isnt *that* big of a jump. And when I asked him why the Gump sculpt was $145 (that I'll agree is a bit excessive) he claimed it was due to a new (better quality) printer/resin. Which was more expensive.

But again, as with anything in this hobby theres a demand and people will pay it. [emoji2369]

Building the best Indy figure can be an expensive endeavor, having said that, this is a hobby of choice, you can buy or not buy whatever you want...

I recently found a guy on eBay who sells 1/6th scale Star Wars Death Star hall diorama for under $100., you can buy more expensive version from other makers for up to $1,000.

Its anyones choice, I have seen great Indys up here that people have put together from spare parts, I dont think these things are about the money that artists charge, its about choice, and the more choices that we have the better [emoji1303]
