Which is more important for your 1/6 figures - detail or cost?

  • Toybiz got it right - $25 is the right price and their figures were fine.

    Votes: 2 1.9%
  • $40 would be right for a hobbit, I don't need a lot of accessories or a ring.

    Votes: 17 16.5%
  • I'm okay with $70 - seems like a good balance of price and detail.

    Votes: 43 41.7%
  • Let's go the HT route - make them $100 and pull out the stops on accessories and detail.

Which do you value more? Details and as much realism as possible, or are you happy with a simpler figure if it's cheaper?

I take figure by figure. If like when I look at these I feel the price is justified I buy it and am happy if not then I at the very least think about getting it cheaper someplace else.

I VOTE THE HOT TOYS ROUTE....I FOR ONE, DONT MIND PAYING HIGHER PRICES FOR THE BEST FIGURES...THATS WHY I BUY PF NOW...THE QUALITY IS BETTER.

I agree with you Josh, a figure by figure basis. A complex, armored figure I expect to be more than one with a simple one layered costume.

If this poll is only about Hobbits than I think SS found a nice balance, my only gripe being that I would've liked a mithril shirt for Frodo.

Maybe when I'm out of college and have a real career going I'll be ok with that. For now I have to be real picky, though I don't wanna give up quality just because I'm poor. I'd rather budget carefully and do with less than end up with a second-rate figure.

I'm having a hard time with this poll and the reason is is that I've seen HT pull out all the stops and offer some great quality figures for less than $90 and even less than $80 at certain retailers.

The Rambo line is a good example of this, great sculpts and awesome quality. HT Drake is another great example. Not only did Drake have a HT's muscle body but he was loaded, LOADED with stuff for less than $80 from Corner Store when he came out.

The thing that I've always loved about SS 12" figures is that they were priced just right for their quality. They are in no way cheap or Hasbro like but they are not quite up to par in certain areas with HT so the $55/$60 price tag was on target.

But, in all fairness, if SSC continues upping the level of quality that the Boushh fig has shown and if, IF the Hobbits turn out just like the protos at SDCC then paying $70 for each of them might be justified. SS beware though.

My two and a half cents.:lecture

Just to clarify, we're talking SRP, not what you might be able to get it for down the road or on ebay if there's a glut. The hobbits might be available for much cheaper later on too.

I agree, the wording of the poll is a bit off. I don't know what else SS could've included to push the Hobbits to the $100 mark. Elven boats? Alternate heads? They look beautiful and come with almost everything one could hope for.

Bottom line I choose quality and detail over price any day.
The $20 Zizzle Jack Sparrow vs the $130 Hot Toys Jack Sparrow is a great example. I'd never spend even $5 for the crappy Zizzle.

Yep, I'm talking $79 SRP for Drake at corner store comics and $67 for Rambo FB and $80 for Rambo 3. Not down the road or on ebay. Shocking but true.:D

I would vote for the HT $100 mark, but that extra $30 per figure could really add up over time.

I'm fine with the $70 SRP. Looking at the photos of the Hobbits with all the accessories and knowing what SS did with HT to make the new bodies, it seems justified (I know a lot of people don't think so). I just think they really need to start cracking down on QC for the paint apps. If I'm going to pay $70, the paint apps should reflect this.

I agree.

That doesn't mean I have to be happy about the price though, or feel that it's really worth it. I've bought plenty of things in my life that I knew were overpriced, but I wanted it so I bought it.

I thought Jabba was overpriced at $120. But I wanted it so I bought it.

The killer is when you pay good money and then get crap paint apps or breaking limbs or the legs won't hold the weight or something. It's the "something" I have more of a problem with than spending money. I'm good at spending money.

I'm a little torn about this as well. When the 1/6 Star Wars line was announced I thought they said it was going to be good quality and a good, fair price but we have seen the price increase but quality is so so. I think the $60 range is best.. if people want super quality super detailed figs thats what the premium formats are for... if things keep going this way the 12" Vader will be $200.

I completely agree Wor-Gar.

The only way I think SS could get the Hobbits down to $40 would be not simply get rid of all accessories other than 1 sword each but also reduce the quality of the fabric used - no corduroy or herringbone and perhaps opt for the one piece stitched together pant/shirt/vest combo that Toybiz did.

I don't think a 1:6 SS Vader will ever hit $200, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was around the $100 mark.

I have to agree. I am quite happy with Sideshows quality. Even most of the paint apps, at the prices I have paid. Some they really hit out of the ball park, such as Washington. An exemplary figure.

Sideshow, mostly, have a nice amount of accessories to go along with their figures as well. I wouldn't mind paying more, even at the level they are at now. I think we have been getting great value for money, for a long time already. One thing I can see reasoning behind is upping the price of exclusives, as they have the bonus item, they are rarer, and they increase in value on the secondary market faster.

If Sideshow were to go the Hot Toys route, I expect alot more out of them in respect to detail of costuming and accessories, and across the board standards on the paint apps. No hit or miss.

I can't vote in the poll, because it uses as its premise the assumption that Sideshow could not have released the hobbits at any lower price point without a) sacrificing quality, b) dropping accessories, or c) losing money. None of these assumptions have been established as fact, they are only speculation.
