Which is more important for your 1/6 figures - detail or cost?

  • Toybiz got it right - $25 is the right price and their figures were fine.

  • $40 would be right for a hobbit, I don't need a lot of accessories or a ring.

  • I'm okay with $70 - seems like a good balance of price and detail.

  • Let's go the HT route - make them $100 and pull out the stops on accessories and detail.

The R&D costs for mixed media items is far, far, far more than polystone, especially for LotR. If people can't/won't pay $70 a figure, then there won't be any more figures --period.

.... and mommy and daddy will turn the station wagon and we will all go back home RIGHT THIS SECOND! :monkey3

Looks like more than 80% of the people are happy with the 70 + Price. I personally think these figures are worth the 70. New body, excellent detail, great sculpts.

...What I do think is that their profit margin is much higher now than it was two years ago...

I'm not so sure. Two years ago the cost of material was less (I'm assuming this, I don't know), they had an older smaller building and they had less staff. Based on all this I'm assuming their costs are up and therefore the product prices are higher as well. But I'm not so nieve to think the profit margin hasn't increased either. Just throwing out possible other reasons for product price increases. :monkey3

You do raise some interesting and valid points. I'm sure their overhead is higher than it was a couple of years ago, what with server upgrades (and replacements due to PPO meltdowns :D), and increases in staff and warehouse space.

But as I said before, they are able to sell the Frodo and Sam figures at wholesale to dealers and still make a profit, albeit a smaller one, so that alone tells me that there is a fairly substantial markup when they sell direct.

And, even though they do have higher overhead, they are also selling quite a few more products, so it should be able to to be amortized over that broader base.
