1/6 Scale Maquettes: What Would You Prefer?

Of course any LOTR news is good news as far as I am concerned, but I wanted to pose a question: I completely understand that Sideshow wants to start a line with sure-fire hits, but would you be more excited to see the often done Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas or newer, less released characters like Denethor, Faramir, Eomer, High Elven Soldier, etc?

For me personally, the lead characters have been done in the 1/6 scale, and certainly covered in dioramas; for this line to really grab me I would have liked to see something new from the beginning. As I mentioned before, I know Sideshow wants to start the line with a hit - and as a business it might be necessary to do another Strider/etc; and of course they said it would be an expansive line in the video, so those characters could be coming. Which of course brings up another topic - do you want Sideshow to redo the "grails?" We'll have to save that one.

I don't think it's a question of one or the other-- just judging by what they've shown Sideshow has no qualms about tackling both with ferocity and with little chance of deterrence.

Yeah, it's like the 31st Aragorn piece I think, but I guess they're hesitant to open a line with Faramir again.

I can't answer that question either. SS would be better throwing up a list of 'wanted' characters, say a list of 25, and then making a firm commitment to producing those with most votes. Replace the list at the end of the year and at least we will know what's coming.
I'm very reluctant to get into a new line without knowing that Hobbits will be produced to go with everyone/everything else. I suppose that's the nature of Hobbits to remain overlooked and out of sight

So how many Aragorns will that be for you Chris? If I were to get this maquette I would have: Aragorn, Son of Arathorn; King Elessar; Aragorn at the Black Gates; and the Aragorn PF. I guess I just don't see myself needing another (the biggest reason I passed on the two dios).

Arwen is a good choice, the Weta piece has a few elements that I didn't care for.

It really looks like they are trying to offer distinctly different takes on characters in both lines. The PF line seems to really be the most iconic take on the character (Aragorn with his sword, Gandalf with his staff, Legolas with his bow) and the 1/6 concept art suggests an alternate (highly sought after too!) take on characters. Legolas with his Rohan Armor from the Two Towers, Gandalf with his Staff and Sword ready to strike (he looks like a whirling dervish in the films when he uses both weapons - not sure about Thrusty McGroinsalot), Strider comes in his leather ranger duster.

Boromir gets represented in his Gondorian Armor, while I hope he gets his fellowship outfit in the PF line.

I think that the really cool thing is how these two lines will compliment one another.

I also hope that we get the primary characters as listed above as well as the secondary characters with a wide breadth and depth to the line.

This is a great announcement for us LOTR fans!!!

Although I probably won't collect this line, I also am tired of Aragorn. He's the Luke Skywalker of the LotR lines. I have 2, the PF and the Son of Arathorn Weta Statue. That's enough for me.

You forgot the SSW Aragorn bust and the Aragorn LSB (not to mention the Gentle Giant Strider bust, and I even have a Noble Collection Aragorn and Arwen porcelain statue). I passed on the Aragorn dios, too.

Trying to be realistic, I can understand giving Aragorn some attention in these lines. He is, after all, the titular character of the third book/movie. And, much in the same vein, Gandalf is such a pivotal character, it is hard not to see him getting some attention. But, like you, I would also like to see other characters (Arwen, the Hobbits, etc) get more attention. They have been overlooked for too long. I just don't want the line to be only secondary characters. I can't see it lasting if that is the case.

You have to do Aragorn. I hate the "well they've done him in every line comments" since thats the most commonly used. Aragorn is part of LOTR and should be done in every line to give fans a chance to own that character in that style. Plus he sells and you have to have those guys/gals in a line that will draw folks so you can sell say an Arwen that wont be a big seller.

Background Characters MOS, easterling, galadhrim, gothmog and throw in a few random orcs and possibly a crow then bobs your tea pot= success. Leave the main characters for the PF line skip.

Since SS is balking at having the fellowship in the PF line, I would want it in this. I don't collect Weta so anything in this line would be great.

I would like to see some other characters too, but the main characters are a must IMO.

I still hope that the PF line can support all of the Hobbits! That being said, I would like to see them represented here too in some fashion!

If they're really 1:6 scale, I want Merry, Pippin and Gimli. So I can saw off their little heads and complete my figure Fellowship. Then I'm done with Sideshow LOTR and will never again get sucked into something they won't finish.
