I think 2008 has been and will be the best year for 1/6 figures. The TDK and IM lines are just the few that have made this year enjoyable for us collectors. Thoughts on this?

Of the years past easily. The years ahead, who knows. I think with the way Hot Toys and Enterbay are pressing techniques and standards higher the best is yet to come.

Not sure if 2008 was the best year for me. I think 2007 was really great too.

Not counting the TDK and IM stuff, and Vader finally being announced, 2008 has been frought with 1/6th disappointment:

the non existent INDY line
the apparent end of the POTC line
the non-appearance of the highly anticipated PREDATOR figures
the problem with Kane, and lack of further ALIEN figures
the silence that is the LOTR line

Seems like the Golden Era is coming to a close. So much was announced and made last year. This year there has been far less...with exception of the single film that is TDK.

My highlights...

The Dark Knight figures
Iron Man figures
Indiana Jones
Darth Vader announcement
Gandalf the Grey
Mr. Bean
Hot Toys taking production paint to the next level
Hot Toys tailoring pushing the standard higher
Hot Toys 1/6 scale vehicles
Enterbay announcing new skin technology

dunno about the best year, but been a very expensive year. lol
I only started collecting in Feb and I have managed to amass quite a good number of figures, there has been some great lines.
Disappointed there's no Indy or Lara Croft yet, and looking forward to getting the two new Dead figures

i think i say this every year. i think each year is better than the last. i guess it's good cuz it keeps me collecting. if they started to slip and put out lame figures id probably get bored of the hobby. somebody's doing something right. i keep getting poorer.

Best year ever. No question. Next year could surpass it though. The golden era is just beginning. I exclude Sideshow from this. Their 1/6 production is going down the tubes.

I think we've seen some of the best figures this year that have ever been produced, but I have to agree with Wor Gar that there have also been a lot of disappointments.

Overall it does seem like the quality of figures is at an all time high, but price is sky-rocketing which makes this a hard hobby to be as active in.

HT is definitely making this a great year. They continue to surprise with great announcements. I can't wait to see what's next from them.

It's funny how I was a completist in the SW line. Now I'm finding myself more and more willing to cut out some figures (sorry, second tier SW figures) in order to afford what HT is producing.

I think last year was better,
way more SW figures, LOTR figures, Preds and Aliens...
this year, besides DK and IM... and MJ, not much going on IMO, it's not bad though...great quality products so far!!

I still think the best is yet to come, but I've probably been saying that every year now for awhile. This year was marred with some disappointments. A lot of cool stuff, but nothing that really blew you away. I think the Iron Man figures are gonna really take things to the next level.
