i think i say this every year. i think each year is better than the last. i guess it's good cuz it keeps me collecting. if they started to slip and put out lame figures id probably get bored of the hobby. somebody's doing something right. i keep getting poorer.

Couldn't have said it better.

And not to mention we were treated to some great flicks this year... Iron Man and TDK really gave us the opportunity for some mind-blowing figures :rock

I think we've seen some of the best figures this year that have ever been produced, but I have to agree with Wor Gar that there have also been a lot of disappointments.

Overall it does seem like the quality of figures is at an all time high, but price is sky-rocketing which makes this a hard hobby to be as active in.

HT is definitely making this a great year. They continue to surprise with great announcements. I can't wait to see what's next from them.

It's funny how I was a completist in the SW line. Now I'm finding myself more and more willing to cut out some figures (sorry, second tier SW figures) in order to afford what HT is producing.

I'd say that about sums it up for me. Although, I still hang on to the SSC SW line, and I know I shouldn't: to expensive for what it is, and I have to wait too long for the characters I REALLY want. I certainly lost my faith in Sideshow this year.

The things I read in this thread somehow confirm that for a lot of us, the novelty of great items wares off pretty fast, and that we're constantly looking out for the next "fix". 2008 brought some great things, but let's not forget the 2007 highlights: the Hot Toys Endo's, the Power Loader, the Aliens, SSC's old Ben (still the best 12" in their SW line for me), the Medicom Fett's, ... 2007 was also a great year.
I have mixed feelings towards 2009. The economy is not exactly on a high. I think that will have serious repercussions on our collecting behavior. But that's a thing we can discuss next year. :D

I do think the economy will make affording these much harder. I'm to a point where I have a large collection, but I'm noticing a lot of fat I can start trimming.

When HT announces that they have the Blade Runner license, it will be the best year ever.

I know this will never happen, but... :D

Best year ever? If by best you mean the most uncertain "how-the-crap-can-I-afford-what-I-want" year, then yeah. Its been awesome.

Great point. I definitely think that helped make this year so great.

Just that fact that Hot Toys and Sideshow have teamed up on a few figures makes it a really special year. I think Frodo and Sam are some of the best 1/6 figures ever made.

I also loved getting ANH Ben, Luke and Han.

I really hope Hot Toy and Sideshow come through with Indy. I don't mind waiting and cannot wait to see how he comes out.

I haven't jumped on the Enterbay band wagon quite yet but look forward to seeing more of what they come up with.

So, yeah, it definitely was an amazing year for 1/6 figures.

For me it's been good, but not great since I love LotR and we didn't see much action with the 1/6 line. :(
