Re: 2016 College Football General Discussion

Michigan drops to 6
Washington is 4
Penn St goes to 5 if they win.
Next week Clemson wins they move to 2
Washington wins they move to 3
Penn St wins and moves to 4

Ohio state ends at 5 since they dint make the conference championship

Re: 2016 College Football General Discussion

It'll get interesting should Penn State face Wisconsin for B10 title and Wisconsin wins.

Conference Championship enough to jump Wisconsin over Ohio State when Buckeyes beat them in head to head match up.

Could get interesting especially with OSU resume....

Mentioned earlier next few weeks will be interesting

I don't think we're dropping that far, if at all

Re: 2016 College Football General Discussion

I do , if you read the written criteria conference championship is a key item. You can't put OSU over Penn St. They won't go in over Clemson. They should t get in over Washington. The only way they should maybe get in would be Wisconsin wins big 10 or USC/Colorado win the Pac12. Teams have dropped that far when sitting at home.

Re: 2016 College Football General Discussion

I could see it playing out this way:

This week's rankings:
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. OSU
4. Washington

After next week's conference championship games:
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Washington
4. Penn St

*if Washington and Penn St both win. If either loses, OSU is definitely in.

Wow Washington and Penn St in the playoff discussion :horror

Conference championships matter when teams are on equal ground. The committee doesn't see Penn State as equal to Ohio State right now. They lost to Pitt and got waxed by Michigan by 39 points. OSU lost on the road at night to a healthy Penn State team coming off a bye week. Not to mention the Buckeyes outplayed PSU that game on offense and defense. It was the two special teams gaffs that lead to the victory.

Also the committee doesn't want to put a weaker team in the playoff like they had last year with Michigan State getting shutout by Alabama. They want someone who can match up with them and know OSU and Urban Meyer are the best in the Big Ten.

Re: 2016 College Football General Discussion

I'm all about my alma mater making the cut but truth is the truth. If OSU of the past two weeks show up, they'll have a difficult time competing with any team in the championship hunt. If the offense becomes more diversified & consistent then it's a different story altogether.

I still feel Bama will win but Clemson has best shot (both sides of the ball) to pull an upset outside of a rejuvenated OSU team. Washington, Penn State, Wisconsin etc. forget about it.

No that is the current narrative. The original written statement was that conference championships matter. Remember two years ago when Baylor went from 3 to outside while not losing or even playing bad.

Actually their written mission statement is to select the four best teams for the playoff. They place an emphasis on conference championships (advantage Penn State if they win today) and also strength of schedule (heavily favors OSU right now). They also use head to head games and results against common opponents when they see teams as comparable. Right now the committee sees a substantial gap between OSU and PSU/Wisconsin due to them having only one loss to the other teams' two losses. Kirby Hocutt has said as much the last few weeks after the rankings came out. A conference championship will certainly close the gap but it may not be enough because that is only one part of the equation not the determining factor.

Also Baylor was left out two years ago because you had 6 one loss or no loss conference champs. Baylor and TCU tied for the BIG12 title. They sat at home the last weekend while OSU destroyed Wisconsin 59-0. If there had been a single BIG12 champ they would have had a better chance to get in.

Opening drive TD for the Gators.:yess: That'll probably be the highlight of the night for me. I'm assuming Alabama domination from here.

Re: 2016 College Football General Discussion

OSU still has no business in the playoff. No other sport awards teams that can't win their conference like this.
