I'm pretty sure they could find a lot of narrative gaps to fill just from revisiting the first film. It's been a while since I've watched or read the story, but from what I remember, the film left the monoliths a mystery. In fact the whole film was pretty psychedelic and lacked much of the coherence of the original text. I'll have to start over I think. I'm looking forward to a new sci-fi though, I hope it turns out well.

after what happened to prometheus.....

i say magic mike this one too, and to hell with it.

:lol

Sounds like a swell idea, what could possibly go wrong?

Love the first and think the second is underrated.

The monoliths should absolutely not be explained.

The mystery of the Monolith has to be left unexplained, the whole god theory of the monoliths are a mystery and should be left that way.

I do wonder is there a story to be told now? It came full circle with 2010, we know the monolith creates life and was instrumental in the evolution of man from apes.

I do remember reading 3001, but for the life of me I can't remember what the hell it was about...
I think by the time that came out, Clarke was mostly just giving ideas, while the main writing was done by some one else.

2001 is a 10/10 film for me. I have to be really in the mood to watch it but when I am, boy, it's one hell of a dramatic ride.

With 2010 I agree with EVILFACE in that it's underrated, 8/10. I know that many seem to hate the explanation, or even having an explanation, for HAL's motivations in 2001 but I didn't mind that at all. I loved the interaction between HAL & Dr. Chandra at the end of the movie.

So I'd welcome any further sequels in this series. Unless Disney buy the rights, of course. Then we can expect 3 new films in the series every year. :slap

I know I read the first three (of four) books in this series, but it was a LOOOONG time ago and my brain just doesn't have enough RAM these days to remember much about the later books! :lol

In these stories about this new show they seem to be ignoring the third book, "2061." Seems like they'll be skipping over it. I have vague, hazy memories of it having something to do with Heywood Floyd going to Halley's Comet ...

Not saying this is fact, but its an interesting take on the monoliths.

SyFy is going to do another makeover and going back to doing SciFi. They have a lot of new shows they're working on.

Scott should have directed this for the big screen. Might be worth seeing...
Well anything after the original Kubrick film is a slight shadow of the original WHICH NEEDS NO SEQUEL(S).
