I'm surprised no one mentioned Black Cat yet. :p
I don't have a clue who the fourth Villain is. Who it is doesn't matter much to me since it all depends on how they use the character. I have faith that Sam Raimi will deliver, but I personally think the main villain is more important for a movie sequel then the main character's development, and splitting that position into four I think will impair it's crucial influence.
I'm thinking this might be in preparation for the Sinister Six in Spider-Man 4.

So Harry was never Hobgoblin? I guess that makes sense that he'd wear the same costume as his dad then.

In the comics Harry becomes Hobgoblin - but I could see them going either way. He did pick up the original Goblin mask at the end of 2.

Harry became Green Goblin - Macendale killed the original hobgoblin and took his costumed identity.

Green Goblin(Harry Osbourne)

Background
Harry Osborn was the college roommate of Peter Parker. He worshipped his domineering father, and tried to live up to what he thought his father's exceptions were. The pressure got to him, however, and he began taking drugs. It was a long, slow road to recovery, replete with backslides. It was during such a period that Harry witnessed the battle between his father, the original Green Goblin, and Spider-Man, that resulted in his father's death. The shock started to drive Harry towards insanity.
After discovering Spider-Man's costume in Peter Parker's room, Harry assumed the identity of the Green Goblin and tried to do in his roommate. Peter defeated Harry. The arriving authorities refused to believe either that Peter was Spider- Man, or that Harry himself was the Green Goblin. They handed Harry over to a psychiatrist, Dr. Barton Hamilton, who successfully treated Harry's insanity but who also learned everything Harry knew about the Green Goblin. Dr. Hamilton eventually went on to become the third Green Goblin -- but that's another story.

Just like his father, Harry suffered from a sort of selective amnesia and often didn't remember either his father's other life or Spider-Man's secret identity. This amnesia began to erode when the original Hobgoblin offered him proof that Norman Osborn was his father. Harry tried to use some of his father's weapons on the original Hobgoblin, with dismal results.

Harry stayed away from super-powered types for a while. During the Inferno crisis, he became the Green Goblin again and battled the second Hobgoblin. He thought about becoming a super-hero, but was forcefully dissuaded by Spider-Man.

Harry began to imagine his father's spirit, goading him to revenge. He obtained and used a modified version of the original Green Goblin's strength formula . He taunted Peter and Peter's wife, Mary Jane, with his knowledge of Peter's secret identity. He openly jetted about in his Goblin attire, even publicly confronting J. Jonah Jameson. His determination to extract vengeance caused him to try and blow up the Osborn Foundation with himself and Spider-Man inside. However, the presence of Mary Jane and his son, Norman, shocked him into a semblance of sanity. He got everyone out safely before collapsing. He died shortly thereafter, apparently from an unexpected side-effect of the Green Goblin formula.

Jason Macendale (Hobgoblin II)

When his methods became too extreme for the C.I.A., Macendale set himself up as a criminal-for-hire. As Jack O'Lantern, he tangled with Machine Man, Spider-Man and Silver Sable. Hired to be an enforcer for the Kingpin, Macendale joined the Rose and the original Hobgoblin. He and the Hobgoblin had a major falling out, however, when he refused to help the Hobgoblin chase down Spider-Man. This eventually led to Macendale's hiring the Foreigner to assassinate the Hobgoblin, at which point he took the Hobgoblin's equipment and criminal identity. He soon found he also inherited the Hobgoblin's enemies, Spider-Man and the second Green Goblin, Harry Osborn.
Macendale's obsessive need for power led him to try and make a deal with the demon N'astirh, who had him possessed. He remained in this form for some time before achieving separation from the demonic entity in Web of Spiderman #85. The demonic entity, known as Demogoblin, was killed by Macendale when he got Kraven's formula powers. Having apparently learned nothing from the demon-blending experience, he underwent physical alteration during his tenure with Gaunt, allowing himself to be implanted with cybernetic devices.

That's impressive, did you look that up or know it? I've always loved spider-man but could never really get into comics. The movies are great, but obviously they can never go that in depth. Most of my Spidey knowledge comes from the cartoon series that was on in the earl or mid 90's. I really loved that and I was so upset when it ended.

Someone told me that in the recent animated series (not the MTV one), had Harry Osbourne as Hobgoblin (voiced by Mark Hamill). This is the same series that had the multi-part Venom story arc with the black suit coming from space.

I would explain why so many people get confused about the origins.

Thanks LordAzrael for such an in depth reply to my queries. :D

It was Jason Macendale as Hobgoblin voiced by Mark Hamill. Harry became the Green Goblin in the cartoon and attacked Peter and Mary Jane's wedding. At least, that's how I remember it.

That's my memory of it too, Harry became Green Goblin and attacked Peter and MJ's wedding. Of course it wasn't actually MJ which was revealed in like the last episode. :lol

Where did the symbiote come from? I think I said it before but I can't remember, most of what I know about Spiderman comes from this. Never could get in to comics for some reason.

The sinister 6 in spider-man 4 would SO beyond rule all others. I would wait in line for that movie for like a year.

Sorry if this has been said before, but as I recall the original symbiote came from the Secret Wars saga. Spider-Man found it on the battle planet. In other versions it came from space, and in Ultimate Spidey it was a cure for cancer that Peter and Eddie Brock's (Venom) fathers had been working on before their deaths.

If it's been said before I missed it, thanks for the info. I wonder what version they'll go with for the movie. I would bet on the sapce one since they made a point of showing JJ's son as an astronaught in the last one. Although I guess that could have just been to keep it more like the comics for the comic fans...assuming that was in keeping with the comics.

Also, regarding the insidious six, wasn't Doc Ock one of them? He was in the cartoon. So if he was and he's dead would they replace him with someone else?

I didn't see much of the animated series, so I have NO memory of it either way.

It's funny... why do you think that some people thinkthat Harry becomes Hobgoblin? Where are they getting that impression, I wonder?

Maybe people just figure that if there are two villains as similar as Green Goblin and Hobgoblin there must be a connection and father and son makes more sense. Otherwise, I dunno.

I doubt they will have symboite come from space. That would make issues very complicated for the movie. Either it will be like an industrial accident, or spidey will be fighting a villan and come across the black suit.

well, as I recall from the second part ...Jameson's son was on his way to the space and IMO that is where the symbiote rock will be found and brought back to earth.

That would be a great idea but I don't think they'd be able to do it in one movie. More like a two-part movie or even a trilogy.

yup. let's not forget about the time spidey started turning into a real spider. I hope they keep up with this and not just end it just like that.

Why would it be complicated for the movie? Not trying to be confrontational or anything, I'm just missing your line of thought.

To me space would make sense because JJ's son goes to space, comes back with the symbiote attached to the shuttle (I'm pretty sure this is what happened in the cartoon) meanwhile spidey is fighting one of the four bad guys in the movie, a very minor one, who doesn't need a backstory or explanation, just someone who is there. Said bad guy is trying to do something, er, bad where the shuttle is landing which is when spidey picks up the new threads. Enter the second bad guy and spidey realizes t he suit is messing with his mind so he ditches it where it is picked up by Brock and becomes Venom. As I recall that's how it happened in the toon so I don't expect the movie to follow that exactly, but it seems a plausible plot line...to me anyways.
