Let me see if I have this right - this is a variant of a stormtrooper based on a bunch of SW geeks who like to dress up like characters from the movie? Uh-huh. I think I'll pass.

I'll be passing on the Hasbro exclusive too. Cool for people actually in the 501st though.

Nope. While the Hasbro CC figure is based on the fan-costuming group, the Medicom 501st Vinyl Deformed fig is designed from the canon troopers who followed Anakin into the Jedi Temple in ROTS (blue markings). They are officially classified as the 501st legion on Starwars.com:

I think this will look like the 501st from ROTS.

I do want to make a follow up to my comment about the compairson being silly. I don't think Matt is wrong for feeling that way as he has every right to do so. I just don't feel the compairson is a good one. I don't want anyone thinking I'm trying to force someone to agree with me. :D

Except that the group in ROTS were only called that in reference to the fan group. And I might be remembering incorrectly, but they were never actually called that in the film - it was only mentioned in the book.

Nice to know though that the deformed version will be based on the look in the movie - makes a lot more sense to me than the Hasbro SDCC figure.

Sideshow said that this was the 501st CLONE TROOPER, not stormtrooper, so it will be a new design based on the ROTS clones and not just the regular vinyl stormtrooper with a variant paint job.

Thanks for the disclaimer Josh, though again I realize you are quite passionate about these. :lol

As for these being toys, well of course they are - they are "toy collectibles." Nothing wrong with that, the 12" line fits in that category as well. I mean the company distributing them is called "Sideshow Toy" (or at least their web address is). Don't be ashamed of that designation, it wasn't mean to be pejorative, no harm meant. If you like them go for it, I was simply giving my reasons as to why I won't be. Granted the price point is much different, but in my eyes the end result is comparable.

:lol Well, I just wanted to make sure that anyone (not you) that might think I'm trying to step on your toes is aware that this is not the case. Sometimes what I say is taken to literally or personally I think.

I agree these are toy as are the 12" really but I do think they can be called Toys in a negative and postive way. Like I say it's all good. No harm. No foul.

You know, I did end up ordering Vader and the Stormtrooper but I'm still not sure this line is for me. I'll probably end up getting the 501st trooper as well. But if I accept this line into my collection, I'm going to have to accept Gentle Giants animated style Lord of the Rings and I'm not sure if I want to. :wacky

These aren't really to my taste either, but the 501st clone trooper would be pretty cool, I've always thought the various colors on the clone troopers made a nice flair. Wonder why Palpatine did away with them over the following 20 years. :p

How big are they anyways?

The Lord of the Rings is a more literate and adult-oriented work than Star Wars, and it doesn't lend itself to an anime style of product in the same way that Star Wars does. I am firmly opposed to the idea of the GG animated LOTR maquettes. (What that means is that I will probably end up buying every one of them that they make after seeing the first few pictures...)

If there was no Stormtrooper, I probably wouln't have even considered this line. But I had to order the Stormtrooper so why not order Vader as well.

Everytime I look at these figures, the more I like them. Probably going to pick up this one, and maybe Vader and a Trooper as well.....................501st should be killer...................

Looks like this will be a blind order:

A NOTE ABOUT PRODUCT IMAGES
Please be aware that, although there are no product images of this figure available at this time, we will be updating with images as soon as they become available. If you are hesitant about pre-ordering before seeing product images, we would like to stress that you will be able to cancel your pre-order at any time before it is processed WITHOUT PENALTY. Due to the projected popularity of this product, we highly suggest pre-ordering it sooner rather than later.
It's been a while since Sideshow last sold us something without providing any pictures. We've been spoiled...

I would very much like to get a VSD Fett. I seem to remember them saying that they had "other plans" for that one...

I had hoped it would be the SDCC figure, but no luck.

I remember that being said, too. I'll take a PF Fett over a VSD version any day. I just hope he comes next in the VSD line. Has there been any word if any more characters will be added to the series?

Just for the heck of it:
