I didn't know wether to put this in the " show your shelves " section or here so forgive me mods if I'm wrong , please move it if needed.

Now the problem.
I have just purchased one single 60cm wide besta cabinet that goes up 192cm. So the tallest one but not the widest.
This one..

Now in the room this ( and hopefully another one ) will be going in , there is a thin pipe across the bottom of the wall. On Ikeas website it is listed that Bestas MUST be attached to the wall. The pipe obviously creates a problem since this means the besta cannot touch the wall properly.
Here is the pipe...

It sticks out about 2 inches.
I'm hoping in the long run to put on tombo doors on both bestas too.
Now my main worry is that without it being connected to the wall , with the weight of the statues , glass doors ( putting weight towards the front ) and the cabinet itself it may fall forward and tipple over with the statues inside. :horror

Is there anybody out there who uses bestas with doors put on but doesn't have them on the wall ?.
I haven't seen them in person yet but this is quite a big worry and I was thinking about not even buying them. Obviously though all the fantastic displays on here made me think otherwise. :D

Any help would be seriously seriously appreciated since I'm at a loss here as wheter to risk just chancing it or not.
Thanks in Advance.

Well, I have one of those myself, with statues and not attached to the wall.
However, I'm not that worried, because:
1. I don't have kids etc that may start climbing up it
2. No earth quakes, etc in my area
3. I have some general (non statue stuff) sitting on the bottom which is pretty heavy, just to give it some weight. You could use your heavest statue if you like
4. These come with round screw in feet, one in each corner, the idea is that you can adjust them on any surface to make the unit level, even if the floor isn't.
However, you don't have too, on purpose I made the front feet screwed down more, basically the whole unit 'leans' backwards, towards the wall. So if it is going to fall over all by itself, the first direction its going to fall in is a few cm's till it hits the wall.

So all in all, for me I'm not worried, but I'm sure if you still really wanted to 'attach' it to the wall, then maybe some chain or something to bridge the gap between the wall fixture and the unit.

Here's what mines looks like:

I have them, but without the doors. I don't have them fastened to the wall. They are far more stable than Billys because of the wider footprint. However with doors I wouldn't risk not attaching them to a wall.

Probably not possible with the hardware that comes with the unit, but you could get a metal brace that could screw into a stud in the wall and then screw into the top of the Besta. It wouldn't be flush against the wall but should hold it okay.

Of course I had all my Billys fastened to the wall and they still fell over in the last big quake. Luckily there were just books and not collectibles in them at the time.

Eww, I'll bet that did some ugly drywall damage.

I intend to get the Besta to display my collectibles in the near future as well. Thanks for posting this question, its something I hadn't thought of.

I've got the tall double wide units with Vegby glass doors and no problem. I adjusted the legs so that there is a bit of lean backwards toward the wall. Glass on the single unit would make me a little nervous. I only have one of them but haven't tried putting on doors yet.

awesome guys. Thanks for the help. I think what I'm going to do is see what I think first of all when they get here in person. I think though , I will end up finding a way to put them on the wall. I think rather than worry about my collection I would like to enjoy it . :lol

Luckily we don't have many earthquakes here and everytime we do ( even though so far they have all been quite small ) everybodys talking about it for days. :lol
I think at the moment that isn't a problem , it was more of a case of simply worrying about the weight of the statues and doors pulling the unit down.

I'll try to remember to update this thread if it all gets sorted out.
Thanks again.

I really would'nt worry uscmhicks, being in the uk(as i am) earth quakes arent a worry lol.

Seriously though I recently bought a lot of the Bestas, i have the Tombo doors and have not attached them to the wall,i have mainly PF's in them and have had zero problems.........go for it,they look great ;)

Ps/i have mine on a solid wood floor so on carpet maybe less stable, just someting to think about :)

thats awesome. Thanks. Are the bestas you have the tallest ones too ?.

i have the besta's with glass doors displaying my 1:1 collection.....i agree with what the guys said earlier.....mainly adding the adjustible feet with more weight towards the back....and as long as there are no kids playing or tugging around them, i see no problem whatsoever.....good luck!:D

that looks awesome. :rock
Thanks for the photo.

I have the double wide besta with 6 doors on it and not fastened to the wall. The PFs in there are basically centered on the shelves and I have no worries about it falling over. It does have a wide foot print and it would take a lot I think for it to fall forward but I also don't have kids or animals or quakes here.

just figured I'd bump this incase anybody else has any similar problems or info to help out.
The besta I ordered ( and a besta tv bench with it ) are being delivered on the 30th now.
The whole wall with this pipe can fit the one single besta , then the tv bench then another single then a double along the wall pretty much perfectly.
I'll let you guys know what I think of them when they arrive and see what I'm going to do.

Since the pipe sticks out 2 inches, you could possibly put up a 2 x 4 or two in behind the Besta and attach it to those. You could also put your heaviest pieces on the bottom shelf and work your way up weight wise.

Easiest and safest solution. :lecture

Who said the Ween has no brain? Or is that only applicable to men? Just to rub salt into the wound. The men that posted in this thread previously to me. :lol Suffer in ya jocks. :peace

Yep, I'd do that if you're worried about the stability of the unit. Just one batten attached to the studs right at the top would be all you need. Paint the ends of the batten a similar colour to the cabinet and it will be barely noticeable.

Everyone will have this problem with attachment to walls due to the fact that skirting boards nearly always stick out from the wall. Carpet "smooth edge" can be a problem with slim bookcases/cabinets too, but you can overcome that with the adjustable feet.

The Billy Bookcases I own have a little indentation so the book case can still be flush against the wall even though the baseboard sticks out a bit.

well my besta and tv besta bench arrived yesterday and I put them together ok ( I hope ) and I think I'm going to go with weens idea of using a 2x4 on the wall so then the besta(s) can be attached to that.
Before that though... I'll have to get the other bestas in and buy the glass doors.
I'm gonna have alot of collectible catching up to play.
I think I'll have to get the hot toys predator anyway before these ... can't let that one go. :lol

I have two spare silver metal things too... look like there meant to go around something.. I haven't got a clue what there for ?. I'll have to take a photo of them.

by the way , anybody know what feet are on this guys bestas , can't seem to find them on ikeas website ?. :D

So I assume your happy with the Besta setup etc, tho it really only shines once its all complete and you have all your stuff in them.
