I would have said he should have been all CG however "The Beast” in Beauty looked very CG and forgettable!! Should have done something to the effect of Davy Jones (both Disney)

That looks so much better. Disney/Ritchie should have done performance capture as opposed to whatever "Frankensteining" technique they cobbled together. Maybe the effects are still unfinished and they were rushing to assuage concerns and show Blue Genie, but wow that looked rough. Hopefully it will turn out, although I probably won't see it in the theater. However, considering all the blowback from the trailer, it might behoove Disney to push back the release to December and get everything right.

Disney should have left this one alone. I can't think of an actor today that could be better than Williams' Genie.

The only other option would have been to go a more serious route with Genie. But we know they would never do that.

I enjoy eating my words, so I hope this isn't as bad as it looks, but I have no faith after the Beauty and the Best remake.

Yeah the only way that this could really have worked IMO is if they made Genie 100% CGI in the style of the cartoon and just re-used Williams' dialogue from the original. I'm sure with all his improv they have tons of outtakes and unused audio recordings that they could have inserted into this one to keep it different enough. But maybe the circumstances of his suicide would have given that approach too great of a morbid shadow.

I just rewatched the Cartoon and Williams was just as awesome as I remember. Aladdin is still one of my favorites and I am hoping this one will be good too. I don't want a literal scene by scene remake of the animated one like Vaughn did with Psycho 20 years ago. I like Will Smith and hope he delivers the goods. Nothing will be better than Robin Williams though but it can still be enjoyable.

Yeah of all the films released during Disney's 2D resurgence (from The Little Mermaid to Lilo & Stitch) Aladdin was my favorite so it does sting to see them screw the pooch with Will Smith on this one.

I do miss the 2d animation. Watching it again made me realize how much I like the animation compared to everything being done by computer. Pixar has done amazing things but I wish we still got movies like this in this day and age.

I am A Disney fan, but they need to leave the classics alone.

Spinoffs are ok. I had no issues with Maleficent.

But pretty much every remake is forgettable compared to the original.

I actually prefer these live action remakes over the Direct to video sequels they did to all their classics lol

Ah the key is REMAKE. How about a live action sequel......

At least its a shot at originality...
